Hello

I have one of the Colt MRR 11.6" on the way and am currently pondering which optic to mount. Whichever I choose I would like to be "combat grade" so that excludes a lot of the lower priced options.

Home range is max 100m currently. Max range I am interested in is 300m for service rifle in Milo AB. Took the Tactical Teacher CQB clinic this fall in Milo so hope to try that out in 2017.

I have varying levels of experience with Eotechs, Elcan C79, Elcan DR 1-4, trijicon rx24, and meprolight m21. To date I would say my favourites have been the Eotechs 553 and 512's.

Currently looking at:
Trijicon MRO
Aimpoint T1,2 or H1
Elcan OS4
Eotech
Acog 3x

Interested to hear what others are thinking? I currently have a Vortex 3x flip magnifier to use for this rifle if needed which I value around $150.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the great responses.

I had a DR 1-4x on my IUR and sold it, it was pretty nice (and we get a great price in Canada for them) but I found it pretty darn heavy and somewhat difficult to get a fast sight picture. After that I have owned a few different types of reflex style sights which have ranged in weight and usability.

Currently I am leaning towards either the MRO, Eotech or Aimpoint and throwing on the Vortex magnifier if I want to shoot 2-300m.

I would be curious to hear peoples experience with magnifiers? One concern I have is total weight and that the Vortex does not have QD to toss it easily if wanted.

Cheers
Chris

If you've shooting under 100 I wouldn't worry about a magnifier.

Heck the range here is 200 and even when I had my DR I'd leave it on 1X. I also got tired of the weight and sold it.

Depending on how good you are and what you are expecting for accuracy.

Personally a red dot like an aimpoint t1 would be the best option for a stubby. If you want a bit more finesse at distance(you should have chosen a 15.7 for that) the acog is the superior option. For me it goes between the t1 and acog. And for your application the aimpoint is my pick. Sorry let me add a caveat. Have you considered a micro acog?

If you've already bought and sold a DR, and weight is a factor definitely pick up an aimpoint micro. Nothing has a track record for reliability like it does. I would say you should make out just fine with a 1X out to 300m.

Eotech is an absolute failure. Bad products and unethical business practices. A reddot would do just fine for the ranges you shoot. I'm a bit partial to ACOG's myself and would recommend the TA33.

I've had several Eotechs, T1/H1s and now have an MRO on my primary rifle. Very happy with it at this point. Much prefer the control and construction as compared to the T1.

Gotta say I agree with the EO Tech part wholeheartedly. When I sent mine back to them I used the cheque to fund a new Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25x4 and it is awesome! It has a great variable power .3MOA red dot in the centre and a recticle that will easily allow you to play out to 500m. Great glass quality of course. Highly recommend you give it a look.

Hi Guys,

Thanks again for all the thoughtful comments and suggestions. I hadn't really considered a traditional "scope" like the VX-R etc but may have a look next time I am at a store. Also keeping my eyes open for either an Aimpoint H2/T2 or an MRO.

Cheers

Ta33 with any green reticle.

Don't let the 3x deter you. I am just about as fast as my EOTech (within a fraction of a second) at distances closer than 25 meters, and am far better than a red dot further than 25 meters. The eye relief is far greater than the spec state and have never had an issue in weird prone positions. The green is very easy to pick up and is daytime BRIGHT.

It is far lighter than any other option if you want magnification and it is bullet proof and includes a mount in the price.

Aimpoint is a great choice, but you don’t necessarily need to spend the $$$ for a T1/H1, etc... When a COMP M3, its less expensive cousin the PRO, or even a good used COMP M2 can be readily had for half the retail of a new micro. However, if money isn't a concern, the T1 will not disappoint! :)

Have done some Youtube research (take with a grain of salt) and the MRO is sounds great! It can also be had new for under $700 with a mount which is attractive as well.

Cheers
