Optic for new long range shooter on a budget

Airgun scope? In Europe, some top tier shooters do use them on airguns, but I've not met anyone in Canada who shoots en expensive enough airgun to justify putting an optic like this on. In Europe, they are much more common.
The Stryker 5-50 seems to work nice on my F-Class gun and I know that they are being used by at least one F-Class shooter who is in the top 5 in Canada. Both he and I were using Nightforce prior.
When you reach that level of competition, you want the best equipment you can afford. That should speak volumes.

Sorry, no offence intended, but I was quoting the product description provided on Hirsch Precision's website;

"This is one of the very few good quality riflescopes for airguns with a reticle in the first focal plane. The unique reticle called HFT was designed and tested by JarosA,aw „Yaro” Matuszewski. It is fully dimensioned and is perfect for measuring the distance. 3-year warranty."

Ahhh, yes. The Delta scopes are reported to be very solidly built and will take a in excess of 1000g. More than even .50BMG, so they will be right at home on most rifles. Most scopes on the market are not robust enough to handle the "reverse" recoil of an airgun and those that are, usually have an indicator saying as much on their advertising/ packaging. Airguns are very popular in Europe and especially the UK where firearm ownership is even more restricted than Canada. Europeans will also tend to spend crazy amounts of money on their pursuits, so you don't see many lower end anythings over there. Here in Canada I find it not unusual to see guys at the range shooting at 300yd and 500 yd targets with $100.00 scopes. Not trying to be a price snob, but you really do get a lot of bang for your luck with Delta.

And thank you slug870, no offence taken. :)

Take a look at the Athalon brand of scopes.

I just went through this same decision process and settled on the Athlon Argos btr. I can't provide any experience yet as I haven't received it but it has rave reviews and some good features. 6-24x, Mil, FFP, illuminated reticle, target turrets. $720+ tax and shipping.

Excellent choice C.308, glad we were able to help you out with that!
