original nazi flag

That very banjo was used in the '70's Movie "Deliverence" with Burt Reynolds.

Yup...you could hear the German influence on the banjo and in the back ground and you faintly hear the goose stepping click of the jack boots crossing the river rocks.
I knew those guys were closet nazis
You gotta ask who would bring a bow and arrow to a gun fight...not smart

My points having been made I don't intend to prolong the discussion further.

:dancingbanana:

My Grandfather was a Royal Canadian Engineer, and has a picture of him taking down a Nazi flag from a public building in somewhere in Europe at the end of the war.

The picture and that same flag are now in my posession as I have been assigned, by his last will and testament, the care taker of his scrap books he put together when he returned from his time in Europe.

Am I doing something wrong by keeping this - Am I a "collector"? I did not ask to be the care taker of said items, but I am.

Maybe I should turn the flag in to the local authorities for destruction, because it makes you feel uncomfortable that someone without a valid reason other than an interest in history, might get hold of it and try to influence the minds of a nation.

You've finally earned my Ignore vote.

Best post in this thread yet. What an awesome souvenir to have of your grandfather and of his service to our country! Something like that is priceless.

I don't think there are many countries out there that haven't commited a war crime against their own people in that Era.

The Italians used chemical warefare against the Ethiopians
USSR : the Poles, Ukrainians , Russian people
Japan : anyone they were at war with

never mind if we dig back further

Are you still there Kenney, I wouldn't blame you if you never logged on again. The level of bombast and mindless bickering in this thread is discouraging. Your flag is a historical artifact, nothing more. If it is as large as you say I think it could be quite valuable as larger flags seem to be quite rare. I'd get a professional appraisal by a knowledgable militaria dealer(don't say it's for sale, say it's for insurance purposes and offer to pay for his time) If you have any provenance(photos of flag in use, where it came from, who got it etc.) that's a bonus.Hope this helps if you have not given up on CGN,there are a lot of good people on here.

Re: Nazi Flag

Amen to that, Brother!

Try looking up WW2 Re-Enactor Groups on the internet. These guys would be a good sourse of information. If they don't know it, they'll point you to someone who does.

Also try contacting your local War Museum. They would be more than willing to helpm you out.

Best of luck to ya.

From a fellow WW2 Re-Enactor.

Now that's calculated to make this all one big happy family!

Like a spoiled teenager they can move out and pay rent on their own if they don't like the fridge door being closed on their heads every so often. :D

As for artifacts of a less then fluffy bunny past...
Methinks everyone is entitled to decide for themselves as to what to do with their own stuff.
As long as they don't be douches with it.

Nazi Flag

The flag you have has historic value to either a museum or a collector of historic items. There have been a lot of terrible things that have happened in the past (in fact still do and these will be frowned upon in the future) stupid comments to your post dont help and distroying historic items should be a crime.
I too have a Nazi wall flag in my lock up that belongs to my son in law (came from my son inlaws grandfather a member of the Patricias out of Saskatchewan it was removed during the liberation of Holland. It has all the signatures of the soldiers that participated that day(this definatly has some historic value) and makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I handle it ,the crap these guys went through is unimaginable.
The amount you finally get for the flag (if you do sell it) will never cover the costs it took for the flag to come into your hands.Graham

The Swastika is an Indian "good luck" symbol originally. You will also see it on the Palace gates in Nepal .The Finnish one is blue..................Harold

Authentic German and Nazi militaria is very popular, although not with myself, but many collectors. I would speak to the Milsurp people and get a better idea of value.

I wonder why Nazi Germany takes all the heat and nations such as Japan and the Soviet Union under equally as terrible ass hats as Hitler get side noted.

That is simple, racism by the winning powers. You honestly think people who were used to head taxes, tight immigration controls on the Chinese, and other similar means of control for the living Chinese people in their country honestly cared what the Japanese did in the Chinese mainland and elsewhere?

And Russia was simple, they didn't want to tempt the Russians into trying to take the rest of Europe before another Dunkirk happened.

And I think Claybuster is compensating for something. Perhaps hidden feelings inside of him that he wants to compensate for. :runaway:
