What are some excellent pistols for shooting .45 ACP other than the 1911 design? I'm especially interested in Europen gun makers except for Glock. I love the 1911 and .45 ACP but looking for alternatives. Thanks

Sig P220 and P227, FNX-45, H&K MK23, HK45, CZ97... pick your flavour. Mind you, while some have roots in Europe, most are made in the good old USofA.

You know, people laugh ... but my Hi-Point JHP is a fun gun for .45 ACP. It's not as accurate as my 1911 -- 5 rounds in a 20 or 30 cm group vs. 5 rounds in a 10 or 15 cm group at 25 meters. But it is cheap and reliable, and it weeell put holes in paper.

That covers the best of it I think. Pretty sure you meant CZ97.

The FNP/FNX45's have really surprised me. Excellent shooters. Double action so they are hammer fired (which I prefer over striker fired). There is the Ruger SR45 and their Ruger American as well - but that one does not feel good in the hand in my opinion. The CZ97 is typical CZ whereby it fits some hands like it was made for them and they are also very good shooters.
