Ottawa Hungry M14 Clinic Sat 20 Mar 2010 Debrief Here!

Barney,

I'll be thinking of you and all the fun I'll be missing by not coming....

Keep u up to date on my project.

Darn, that was a great time. I just rolled into my hotel room here at King Edward and Rideau Streets. What a wonderful day. I feel so good.

I want to thank Andy for all his patience and phone calls.
I need to thank the director(s) for the Smiths Falls FGGC (Steve the gate dude, Rick et All).
Thanks to all of you who participated because I could not make this trip without all of you
Thanks to Greentips who pushed me into all this community building. He is a visionary beyond all our understanding!

Gotta run to the Casino in Hull. Of course I ain't gambling. I'm there for the buffet.. that's why they call me Hungry. ;)

Had a great time today. Thanks again Hungry. You taught us all a bunch of tricks and tweaks. Now my rifle is all tuned up and ready to go. This was a day, not to be missed. Oh ya, thanks Andy as well, for getting it organized.

Thanks Hungry...that was a good day and learned much good stuff.

Met many a CGnutter with lots of different toys built on the M14 platform.

Hungry , Andy and all who attended and involved in making this happen, thanks for a good day.

Had a great time in a wonderful facility with a great bunch of guys. Thanks to the Smith's Falls Fish and Game Club for your hospitality.

As soon as I got home, I finished installing the Boyd's Pepper Laminate stock - boy it looks and feels great. Spent some time and used what I learned to install the National Match Rear Sight Aperture on the same gun. Now I have a Shorty Zombie Killer and a Pretty Range Queen! Just got to find time to shoot them....

Well worth the time - thanks again Hungry.

I too would like to that everyone involved in the event, especially Hungary for running the clinic, and Andy and the SFFG club for organizing and the space respectively.

The clinic was great fun, and I a learning experience.

Andy, that boyd's stock sure makes for a great looking gun.

Hmmmm wish I could make it out east for a Hungry clinic :(
Hey Andy, Let's see some pics of your sweet Boyd's rig.

Here are my two:

- the Range Queen. A "Bell Polytech" in a Boyd's pepper Laminate Type I stock, with a Rauch spring guide, a National Match 0.0520 Aperture and Garand gears in the rear sight, and a 10/5 mag. Once Hungry gets me the front sling swivel (yea I know the rear swivel is on backwards), it will sport a nice M1907 leather sling.

- the Zombie Killer. Norinco 2007 in a USGI stock, Garand rear sight gears, a Marstar spring guide, a unitized gas system, 18 1/2" barrel, a Navy Front sight, a Muzzle Brake of unknown origin, and a 20/5 mag. A canvas web sling of course.

Let us know how that stock bedding works? I was thinking about the hydraulic squeeze out and wondering if there was too much Devcon inside the trigger group where we couldn't see. It occured to me that some of the resistence we got on the last closing squeeze may have been the folded tape filler in the sear groove getting pushed flat. Hmm? Hmm?

I'd want to suggest that if the trigger group gives you an argument coming out, DO NOT pull your body weight on the trigger guard. It is on a hinge and already crooked. If I was in your shoes, I'd put the force on the safety using the little hole. It is a straight pull. The safety is a snug fit inside the trigger group. And its shape has nothing to do with the necessary clamping action after assembly.

My 2007 Norc

It has a Rauch Tactical oprod spring guide, extra stiff Wolfe oprod spring and Marstar recoil buffer. The gas system has been shimmed and the sear polished. The headspace is 1.641". I'll be taking her to the range next weekend to see how she runs. :D

Another Boyds-stocked rifle fresh from Hungrification......and some friends, with and without the pig-stickers :D

The M14S is a 2007 model, with the following parts swapped; Boyds stock, NM hider, NM front sight, Garand rear sight, TRW bolt (1.625" headspace ), Tartan guiderod, Wolff spring, USGI mag, Turner sling.

The M1 is a Danish navy version which started as a 1944 Springfield with matching numbers on the receiver and stock. Barrel is S-A 1951, and all internals are also S-A.

Mauser 98K is a mystery-model with all markings ground off, likely a Yugo rebuild. Bore is mint, and whoever put it together knew what they were doing since it is a tack-driver. Trigger has been swapped for a Timney.

rhs that mauser looks nice, I have one just like it. A mystery gun, hardly any markings on it except for the 4 digit serial and 1 proof mark that is very hard to track. It has a czech lion symbol stamped on the front sight hood but it's not a vz 24, other than that it's clean. Were your markings removed by a grinder or just never there to begin with. mine looks like it came with no markings.

Now with the second one under my belt, got to thank Andy and of course Hungry for the great time I and the others had the clinic. Still learned from this clinic and got to answer a whole lot of question about Sheilla's set up....:D

Got to plan for the next one in these parts.....

Oh! I forgot, it was fun putting faces to CGN handle, hope to see some or all of you on the ranges this season......:p

:dancingbanana:

Thank you so much Hungry for the quality of the day I had. Learned tons of stuff from Hungry and other experienced gunowners and even gunsmiths!

For anyone on the fence about next year - it is WORTH it!
