Outdoor Life - before expensive custom rifles, fancy backpacks and trendy outerwear

Our check wool coats in the 50s and 60s came from Woods, or if you had more money Pendleton or LL Bean.
They were standard bush wear in B. C.

Woods and L.L.Bean wool plaid jackets were standard fare here in Ontario as well... started all my hunting in Bean Highlanders and wool plaid... deer, bear, moose... that was the "costume."

Like the old M1903

I think Jimmy is referring to brands like Filson that make full wool jackets that cost around as much as goretex pro and therma loft

Funny thing is the trendy outdoor gear made by hunting oriented manufacturers is trash compared to modern technical gear and the old stuff.

Been wearing fur hats, wool pants and wool plaid jackets for over 50 years, I never thought of them as trendy, I wear them because they are warm.
I see no reason to change to stuff like Gortex, and especially camo clothing .
I was wearing Carhartts long before they were trendy as well, who cares, not me.
If someone has a problem with what I wear that is their issue, not mine.
I suppose if a person wanted to , they could make a disparaging post anything they looked at these days of the internet warrior .

I was not referring to the old clothes as trendy, as they have never been. I was talking about Kuiu etc.

I wouldn't buy good modern gear if I only used it for a couple of weeks of hunting a year.

No one has an issue with you or the clothes that you wear. Well I certainly do not. In fact if you read my post I praised "the old stuff"; my most commonly worn piece of "outdoor gear" is a stanfield.

Edit: I read further back and it looks like someone does have an issue lol, my bad. No slight on cat intended...

My monthly library includes several upland \ English \ African game themes Camouflage is forbidden. .

Who do you hunt with? The Sitka camo club? Oilskin jackets? I hunt most often in a blaze orange shirt I bought on the clearance rack at Walmart. I’ve hunted with a lot of dudes that got their gear from the guy in charge of stores at the local utility company. The guy had a picture of himself taken in a Keswick dinner jacket. Nothing screams high end to me.

The fact is, my pricey outdoor gear allows me to go farther/longer and stay warmer/cooler.

Sometimes my hunting outfit is worth about 50$ at the thrift store, sometimes my outfit is worth a few thousand $. The hunt style will dictate what I wear and how I pack; sometimes nothing can beat a thick wool sweater, other times a lightweight packable puffy is all I need.

Not commenting on Cat himself as you say.

But if someone is a fan of bespoke the opportunity to drop some coin on a giddy up isn’t hard. It’s dress up, personally don’t Hunt in the suit I go to work in.

Fellers are so upset with this concept they would have trouble running a tang safety.

Both?

Great animals scruffee!
I think I had a sweater similar to that. Early 90’s vintage Woodward’s?

What I am reading here is that anyone who does hunt in his work clothes is foolish. On the other hand, anyone who dresses in clothes purchased for a purpose is foolish. Just what sort of clothing can one wear which is not considered to be "dress up" in your view? To me, you sound like a very judgmental individual.
