Outdoor Life - before expensive custom rifles, fancy backpacks and trendy outerwear

I wear the same stuff hunting that I do at work, my earlier comment about not buying expensive gear if it was just for hunting was not a slight. Early on in my career I worked and hunted in cotton and polyester versions of the controversial jacket. One thing to be said for the old ones and the modern fancy "dress up" clothes; they are usually made from good quality wool.

One man's opinion and therefore entirely worthless:

there are outdoor brands that produce clothes that are much higher quality than those of kuiu and sitka, for not that much more money. They just don't have the same cachet with hunters because guides don't get them for half off and take 1000 pictures in them. Arcteryx is not going to pay Steve Rinella, Arcteryx does not need Steve Rinella.

I was opposed to fancy jackets and whatnot until I tried them and realized how much further you can go, or how much easier the going is when you aren't burdened down. Not to mention range of motion for hunting purposes. I personally am very warm in a couple of layers of synthetic insulation and a goretex shell, as warm or warmer than I ever was in my mackinaws. The real difference is weight and range motion.

goretex is sometimes worst than good. very good under snow if not too cold for really rain nothing beat guy cotten or Helly Hansen ... i had a few set of tv crews that brings very ,,good,, goretex and we always have to find among us the guides some good rain gear to finish the hunt. funny to see them changing the gear for the footage and then back to the bad rain gear that we used ....

a classic picture right there.

Comp hunts are provided for advertising benefits.
I am sure that Jack O'Connor's recommendation was about as good as it gets.
Classic picture indeed.

If a cheap plaid jacket and jeans works for you at your budget go for it.

Same look can be had for a little more if someone wants.
