I have a side-by-side 12 gauge shot gun. When the father-in-law died it was in a leather gun case and the out side has lots of surface corrosion with widely scattered pitting, the bore is in great shape without any pitting. I got a pit gauge from the plant and the pits are less than 0.001” you can hardly feel them but you can really see them. Would it be safe to sand these out, would there be enough metal left? If I sanded down the barrel enough to take down the high points in the general corroded area would it stick out like a sore thumb?
