I am asking here to see if anyone knows of a over under that comes with 24” bbls.
Might even be interested in a 26” set up.

Looking at either 20g or 12g.

Mostly used for grouse in thick cover and the odd hare.

Thanks

A year or more ago, Prophet River took in a "Special" from Huglu. I seem to recall the story was it was a order for a European distributor that for some reason was never delivered.

Pricing was good and the guns were mostly the same models that sell well here, so many of them flew off the shelves. But a few configurations were unpopular in Canada and some of those still sit there. The top gun on the Special list to this day is an example of that: fixed chokes, double triggers, and yes, 24" barrels:

Despite not moving Prophet River has not changed the price, but I have wondered more than once how motivated they might be to take an offer.

I have a 26" barrel browning its length is not a problem . I kick the brush for my grouse and bust a lot of cover . there is a lot more selection in guns with 26" barrels .than you will find with 24" barrels .

26 inch or less barrels are out of fashion, despite being a good gun for thick covers. As a result, used guns with shorter barrels are usually a bargain.
I would not buy an expensive new over/under (think Browning or Beretta) with short barrels due to the immediate loss of resale value, as a used gun.

I own a Browning Citori 12 gauge with 26 inch barrels. It is still the same good gun for Skeet or hunting that it was when I got it 20+ years ago, but its resale value is lower than the same gun with 28 or 30 inch barrels.

I own a Browning Citori upland special in 20ga which was made in the 80's, it has 24in barrels and an english grip. I find it a joy to carry as it weighs only 6lbs. It is not a clay gun, but if you put on a lot of mileage as I do walking the eastern quebec bush with the occasional shot it fits the bill.

There are times in the boreal forest where shorter barrels than normal could be pretty handy in the weeds.
However for a quick shoulder and swinging on a small moving live target 26 inches in an O/U 20 gauge is as small as I ever desire to carry in the field. Lets assume the gun really fits your shooting position.

If you looking for a bush gun for birds, have you considered a pump/semi. I only mention it because I have both a Browning BPS and Wingmaster 870, Upland Specials. The Wing has 23" and the BPS a 24". Both carry like a dream in the woods.

Check out a Stevens Mod.555 that's on sale at www.cabelas.ca. I was looking for a 20ga a year ago just for the same reason you describe, bought this one not expecting much, but,I'm surprised at the fit, function and quality for the money. I doubt there's anything better.

Lower resale value? My ass. Those upland special’s (rem 870’s, citori’s…etc) were made in low production numbers, especially in the sub gauges . I own both and they’re a pleasure to wingshoot grouse with in the woods. When you see one for sale they’re not giving them away…

Browning also offered 24" barrels on the Citori Micro Midas 20ga, which has a shorter pull stock with pistol grip and beaver tail fore end. Intended for youth and smaller stature shooters.

So your experience is different than mine.
Citori upland in the last Hanna gun show, could have been bought for about $1200, didn't sell.
My Citori sporter 20 gauge with straight grip - I paid $1200 and took a lot of guff for overpaying.

The advantage of short barrels in thick cover is highly over-rated.

Agree to disagree. I’m 6’3 and I get tired of barrels hitting branch’s.
I have 5 rifles with 20” bbls for this reason.
My 870 got a 21” bbl years back and the 28” hasn’t been back on since.

It’s personal preference I know. I like them short.

Thank you for that. Definitely has my interest.
Done many dealing with PR. Great company

I would say that a 24in barrel pump is probably the same or close to length overall as a 26in O/U. Weight distribution would likely be different however.
