Not yet. I'm going to see how it holds up. I don't mind some dings on my guns. Gives them character.
smack daddy.. take it down to your local pannel beaters/car painters.. give them a box of beers and ask them to give it a run over of good matte clear coat. thats what i do with all my rifles and gear i paint.. just gives it soo much more durability
Looking good! The maple leaf is a really nice touch.
I did this to a FAMAS a few years back (just an airsoft gun, sadly) to touch it up....I got it as a pretty beat-up ex rental. For reference, I didn't do anything to prep the gun, but it's mostly plastic and pot metal. I used the Krylon camo paints from canadian tire and followed up with some matte clear. Then a little white model paint for the stamp on the receiver. Hasn't seen much use at all since painting, but the finish has held up decently to the odd knock.

I just wanted to say thanks very much for posting your very informative video and pics, smak_daddy. I just got done doing your treatment on my Norinco M305S synthetic stock, and I am astonished at how well it turned out. (for some reason, I can't post pics on this forum
) I bought the same paints as you did, but I used the Olive Drab as a base coat, seeing as how I live on the Wet Coast of BC. I have always wondered how to go about painting a good cammo pattern on a rifle stock, now I am in the know, thanks to you!!
Next up is a Bushnell Trophy XLT to go with my B Square mount, and I am ready for deer hunting next year!

youd think the rubbage would get under the paint, that there woud be dirt etc under the paint.

Thats great. I'm glad it worked out for you. It's been a fool proof method for me. I just painted my HB .308 the same way.
I'd love to see a photo if you ever are able to post one.

So far so good.
I am of the firm opinion that if I get a few chips or worn areas, it only adds character to the gun.
