Painted my M-14

smack daddy.. take it down to your local pannel beaters/car painters.. give them a box of beers and ask them to give it a run over of good matte clear coat. thats what i do with all my rifles and gear i paint.. just gives it soo much more durability

Looking good! The maple leaf is a really nice touch.

I did this to a FAMAS a few years back (just an airsoft gun, sadly) to touch it up....I got it as a pretty beat-up ex rental. For reference, I didn't do anything to prep the gun, but it's mostly plastic and pot metal. I used the Krylon camo paints from canadian tire and followed up with some matte clear. Then a little white model paint for the stamp on the receiver. Hasn't seen much use at all since painting, but the finish has held up decently to the odd knock.

I just wanted to say thanks very much for posting your very informative video and pics, smak_daddy. I just got done doing your treatment on my Norinco M305S synthetic stock, and I am astonished at how well it turned out. (for some reason, I can't post pics on this forum:() I bought the same paints as you did, but I used the Olive Drab as a base coat, seeing as how I live on the Wet Coast of BC. I have always wondered how to go about painting a good cammo pattern on a rifle stock, now I am in the know, thanks to you!!;)
Next up is a Bushnell Trophy XLT to go with my B Square mount, and I am ready for deer hunting next year!

Kudos!

Thats great. I'm glad it worked out for you. It's been a fool proof method for me. I just painted my HB .308 the same way.

I'd love to see a photo if you ever are able to post one.
