Geezus, when are people going to learn about saying stupid sh.. on the internet?

Especially arguing with a girlfriend on FB.

You are on a forum asking for advice on whether you should mention anything about a suicide statement to get your pal?

I notice you are a new poster as well...hmmmm

Just what the anti's want to hear.

Airline pilot in Germany made comments too about doin something, I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it though.

Just sayin

i am not suicidal and i know it was stupid.......... i am just going to wait 5 years and apply because getting my PAL denied would ruin my career, sorry if posting was also a dumb thing to do

Can someone please just tell me a straight up answer on what to do? apply or not? get a phyc or not? i just want a straight answer and ways to show that i am a responsible sane law abiding citizen

I asked your age bc I don't judge someone 18 the same way I judge someone 25+... among many things, I am a licensed high school teacher. This "incident" happened a year ago when you are 17 and would have been a minor. As far as I can tell there was no police involvement... I also understand how many things are written in 2015 on social media and permanently recorded basically forever. My generation (and I'm only one generation above you!) did not have to deal with that aspect. If you said or did something stupid, it lasted about as long as people could remember. Which was a year or two. Not forever.

Young people say and do things without thinking or long term foresight, their judgment isn't there yet, their logic isn't there yet. It is in development. The nice thing about being under 18 is you can mess up and always have a chance to start over. Many, many, many, people say and do things they don't mean, especially when they are young. I believe you when you say you didn't mean those things.

Relax and take a deep breath. Ask yourself if you are ready for the responsibility of owning firearms.

I cant recommend you lie on the application. Since you admitted you did threaten suicide, no matter if you were joking or not, I cannot recommend you lie about that.

1. Apply.

2. Check "yes" when it asks if you have threatened suicide.

3. They will call and ask you about this. Take a deep breath. Be honest. Tell them you were 17, it was over a year ago, and you had a fight with your high school gf. Tell them you said what you said but didn't mean it over social media only, the police were never involved ect. Your references should reconfirm you are stable and this was not a serious situation.

4. If they do not give you your license no big deal. You will have to wait 4 more years and then you can check "no" next time. In the meantime you can still hunt and practice with your father by the sounds of it.

Cheers and best of luck.

Thank you.... and yes i have been around firearms since i was a kid and always handle them with respect and have been taught at a young age to do so. that is why i am so scared of being denied. i love firearms and its my passion. so in you're opinion K-Roc should i wait 5 years? or check yes and explain this to them and get any necessary tests to prove i am okay? im really lost here.

You have already received many answers. You have threatened suicide. No one on here knows who you are. The last thing anyone wants to do is give you an our right go ahead, only to find out later that you hurt yourself or worse others. Especially after what happened in France.

I posted above that only you know how serious you were when you made your threat. Make your decision based on that. If you were remotely serious, even a bit do not apply for a PAL.

I would say IF they deny you, then you have two options:

1. Wait 4 years and re-apply

2. Attempt to get an assessment from a psychiatrist or family doctor and submit that.

If I am not mistake they may actually ask you to obtain a signature from a doctor saying you are essentially fit to own a firearm. I have heard of this happening

No. That will not happen.
also if i get denied will i have to move out because my father owns firearms and he would lose them because i am not deemed safe?

You are over-thinking it for sure. The licensing system really only identifies people with HUGE red flags, most people will jump on me for saying this but I wish it was actually harder to get your (R)PAL. At the same time I wish once you then got your (R)PAL there were far more freedoms and less red tape... but that's a whole different can of worms.

Maybe you have anxiety issues. In that case just wait and relax on it a bit if you want. You have plenty of time... but no, nothing will happen to your father or his firearms. Only way that would happen as I understand it would be if you were a serious convicted felon living in his house.

You're obviously under a lot of pressure to obtain a PAL, which is peculiar to me. You have expressed you will lose your job and be kicked out of the house if you do not obtain a PAL.

I've not read every page of the thread, but I assume you're trying to become a security guard? Regardless, I have 2 sons who are under 10 and they don't have PAL's... I'm not kicking them out any time soon...

In my opinion, a PAL is not the common denominator of your problems, of which you think it is. I'd suggest considering a different career path, and having a talk with your father.

No ones putting pressure on me and also i want to be a Conservation Officer! its my dream. but the reason why i am so stressed is because i want to hunt on my own and also start down my career path and my father wont kick me i was just most concerned about him losing his firearms but now that i know all this i am very calm :) thanks guys i am going to send in my application and tell them what happened and if i get denied i will challenge it with a phyc evaluation and if that doesn't work wait 4 or 5 years.
