PAL Wait Time

April 5: PAL application recieved by Rcmp
April 29: Rcmp charges my CC
May 9th: No website changes or updates as yet

Ontario applicant, no boxes checked.

Figured I'd come to the experts, is there typically a lag between them charging your card and and putting the status online?

Reading through the posts in here it usually seems to be simultaneous most of the time right?

So called in to check my application, my license has been processed and issued, but they spelled my last name wrong, so now that needs to be fixed haha

Mine showed up on line a day before my cc was charged. It seems like every situation is different and there is no set structure on how things move along

The agent I spoke to (very helpful btw) said that once a CC is charged the application should be available online with a day or two of the charge, which is why he thought my application was strange. Net result is they were somehow able to issue me a license with my last name spelled incorrectly

Anyone know what day they are at for printing now?
This waiting process is getting to be a bit much.
Im never a conspiracy guy or political but this just reeks of both. Aren't the liberals trying to do away with gun ownership as we speak?

Does anyone know how long the printer was out for ? I was wondering if there is a chance to get the card before May 28th if mine was issued on April 25th.

They seem to have 2 printers only and one of them broke I lurk alot this thread and seems people get the physical card 4-6 weeks after being issued due to the fact they only use 1 out of 2 printer...

Is it legal to buy a non-restricted firearm online and have it shipped to my home with my valid PAL number in the hope that my card gets here in time before I leave ? If the card gets here I take the gun with me (Bear protection , not hunting) and if it doesn't then I leave it here. There is a valid PAL holder living with me that has his card but the firearm will be bought under my number.

How did you get your PAL Number ? On the status website ? You called in and ask them?
You should call a Chief Firearms Officer and ask what they think!

1-800-731-4000 (for Canada and the United States)

Pretty sure they will tell you no but you should try to at least ask! You might be able to save some time if you already have your weapon at home.

How can a printer remain broken for more than 2 months? I think it is a convenient excuse for the fact that they are simply swamped with applications and renewals. With C-71 coming up everyone is applying for or upgrading to RPALs. I know I had a tough time finding openings for CFSC and RCFSC courses. Everyone was booked for 3 months in advance.

CFP has not published any official statement regarding printing delays.

We do pay 80$ to wait 2-3 months to get our RPAL.... Thats pretty unbelievable not counting all the money we spent on thoses safety courses. Im all about background checks and safety but the process should be wayyy faster. They should AT LEAST fix that printer lol

I think they should be issuing temp licenses that we can download and print once we have been approved online.

I phoned in two weeks ago and used social engineering to get the number off the agent who answered the phone. No questions except what I expected her to answer , very polite and professional and NO griping. Their job probably sucks listening to complaints all day long that the agent has no ability nor authorization to remedy on the spot so don't be that guy or gal.

The CFO this morning said as long as I do not take possession of the firearm until receiving the card and it is handed directly to the card holder then it is fine.

Even for just a PAL it's pretty bad.

CFSC 180$
Day off of work because the only spot within 3 months was 63 KMS from my home
Application fee : 60$
Photo 15 $
mailing it in 5.15$ (registered)
Bank draft fee: 7$

28 day waiting period
6 days for background , spotless and no boxes checked and 1 of my references is a cop.
4-8 weeks to receive the card after it was approved because of a busted printer.

Im at 40 days since issued and as of 5 min ago when I called the CFP its sill not printed. so its more like 6+ weeks just to print.

For what it's worth. . .

March 26 -- My account was updated to "your license has been issued".
March 26 -- I ordered a handgun online.
April 30 -- I received my rPAL (the one without conditions) 35 days after
May 13 -- I received my rPAL (the one WITH conditions attached [on paper]) 48 days after

When I received my initial rPAL on April 30, I contacted the office of the CFO and the person said my initial rPAL was sufficient to take my handgun to the range as she checked and the conditions were electronically attached to my rPAL. She sent me an email with the conditions so I could have piece of mind and carry it with me.
