PAL Wait Time

Waiting for my RPAL. They received it January 31st, 2019. Been told is been on a CFO's desk since October. So been over a year now since they've received it and started the process. I call every 30 days, get the same answer. I even tried to have my references call them with the application number to see if they could do their interview right then and there to cut but on time but they were told "we don't need that information right now" and that was it. Kinda at a loss for what to try next myself. This is in the Northwest Territories BTW.

They received my application on Feb 17. Still hasn’t shown up online and my credit card hasn’t been charged, is this normal?

sounds normal. With me it took about 21 days to show up on line. They received app on March 21 2019. It showed up online and CC charged on April 11 2019.

You think the wait you have experienced so far is bad? Sux to be me. I am still waiting almost 1 year later.

Hey guys,

I recently applied to my RPAL, and the answer I received today concerned me regarding some of the comments I have seen on the thread, and wanted to know if anyone has any updated info or advice on how to proceed.

I'm including timelines so hopefully it helps others also.
My background is completely clean, maybe a couple of very minor speeding tickets. I checked the box for job loss, Sept. 2018 was let go (They knew I was looking) on the 6th terminated, on the 8th had a new offer, position I still currently hold. I provided the facts on a separate page.

Feb 6 - Application received in Miramichi (Sent with signature required)
Feb 13 - Called to check status, they advised they couldn't see it as it hadn't been entered in the system
Feb 14 - Appeared online and CC charged - Showing "Completed initial processing..."
Feb 28 - Called RCMP and was advised that everything was in order and it had been sent to Ontario CFO
Feb 28 - Called Ontario CFO, was advised that application went out for background checks, once completed, it would move to next step
Mar 4 - Called Ontario CFO and was advised that nothing was missing but it hadn't been assigned to an officer yet. CONCERNING Part...She advised that they had a huge backlog and it might be months before they get to it. I know my 28 days are tomorrow, and it is still early, but I'd prefer to be proactive and why I'm posting to see if anything can be done so the app is not stuck for months with the Ontario CFO...

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

My application was processed within the expected limits. I calculated out what the time frame was going to be and it showed up almost to the day. I am in Ontario and I just monitored it through the RCMP website.

I did my course in June 2019 and therefore I was expecting a long wait because of vacations. But that did not happen. They don't even look at them for 28 days. Be patient you will get it. The bigger problem is if you are buying a restricted firearm and you have to advise a gun club name. Gun Clubs are hard to join in Ontario. Lots of people and very few locations. I belong to 2 clubs and just noticed that both have stopped taking new members.

They do look at them. That’s why some people have their credit cards charged within the first 2 weeks. They just can’t legally issue your license until the 28-day waiting period is over, but they absolutely do work on your file during that time.

You don't need proof of range in Ontario. I have a dozen restricteds and never asked if I was part of a range.

Thought I should put my timeline up for more reference. In Ontario and I have had my PAL for a few years and I’m upgrading to RPAL. Took the course January 19. Mailed app in feb 7. Didn’t appear online till this week(I saw it Wednesday), showed received feb 14. Just looked now and shows approved and license is in the mail as of March 6. So about 3 weeks with RCMP. Pretty quick!

Congrats, why you wait 5 years to apply?
