Does anyone know whats left in the process once the CFOgets my application?? Do they do the interviews and criminal record checks?

Finally some action.

Almost exactly 3 months from the date received by the RCMP.

took my pal/rpal in Alberta April 28 - sent in the application the following day.

May 4 my application was received
Sept 3 my CC was charged (thanks COVID)
~called to inquire why i could not see my application online. they spelt my last name wrong... the lady said it was flagged and will be fixed. My application is with the CFO, there was no issues with my application and my picture was being processed.

Sept 19 status online read "application has passed initial processing and is in progress" My last name is still spelt wrong but i can log in to review my status using it. (only one letter off..) Im hoping this doesn't add significantly more time to my application.

as of today sept 23 it still says processing, Ill be calling friday if it hasn't changed for another update.

UPDATE****

I called today and asked to speak to the CFO (first time I've spoke to him directly), since my card was charged almost two months ago. He was very polite and approved me over the phone! Woohoo.

Good for you duckie - Mine only took 14 days, counting 2 weekends. Talk of 4-6 months is those who send paper apps. I went on inet and was done in 15 minutes, including payment, for a renewal of PAL. RPALs must need longer for any 'checks' to be done, but I've heard that many 'references' are not being contacted, perhaps due to overload ?

Mine so far

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to what is now a reasonable amount of time to expect the full processing of a PAL. I mailed in all my paperwork on May 29th 2012, and saw online that my application became active on June 7th 2012. In late June my application was marked as "completed initial processing and now in progress". Just a note ALL my paperwork was 100% correct all T's crossed and I's dotted. The website says you can expect about a 45 day processing time, am I right to be thinking things are taking a little long, or is 60 plus day just the norm these days. Thanks in advance:

This is AB.

Well...this is my new favourite post on the forum. My application is right around the same days, so I might be getting close.

Alberta timeline:

App received June 19
Card charged and showed up online sept 25

Called once a week since. 2 days ago I was told it was sent to the CFO.
today I called first thing, was put on hold for 5 minutes or so and then approved over the phone. I had a job loss in March but was rehired and explained that on the app.

No references called. Only thing they brought up was the job loss, but no questions asked about anything.

I think it helps alot to keep calling and politely asking if you can give them any more details or help them in any way.

Still waiting for website to update so I can finally rest my mind.

Submitting my renewal August 3. Credit Card charged August 3.

Been stuck at:
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Ever since.

They're also supposed to mail out renewal forms 3 months prior to expiry. RCMP Site, first paragraph at the top of the page. Mine expires in January. That would mean I should have received a renewal package in the mail in September.

No renewal in the mail.

I'll call and see what the holdup is tomorrow, but if they're only getting around to July applications at this point I may have more waiting ahead of me yet.

Called today. After a few minutes on hold I found out they were still waiting on the rationale, I think their term was. They needed my gun club membership info (since I have restricteds). I renewed my club membership in May (TSE in Calgary), so it took a few minutes for them to track down what the Club sent in regarding my current membership status to approve my renewal. The lady mentioned that was likely the issue, that I renewed my membership after Covid hit, so there was a backlog there. Or, they didn't bother looking for it until I called. Either way, it was approved.

Wait times weren't bad at all on the phone, I was impressed. ~5 minutes to the main line, then 1-2 minutes after being transferred to the Alberta CFO.

This might be a little off topic. I received my RPAL October 15 2020 ordered pistol same day. I live in BC and I joined Silvercore
shooting club online received membership immediately. I used Silvercore as my club on information required for purchasing pistol.
It arrives tomorrow October 23 very quick turnaround and this is my first RPAL or PAL. I will join a club in the new year something closer to home. Just to let you know that Silvercore is an approved club.

I was told the same by my instructor during RPAL. Silvercore has no shooting range but an approved club. Will likely shoot at Port Coquitlam as it is closest to me.

Still no movement for me. Application received in Miramichi in Feb 2020 before they closed. I have a box checked for depression; called BC FO twice, both times were told to wait. Second time the person over the phone told me it had be reviewed previously by a FO, but waiting for a CFO to call me and interview before final approval. It's been 8 months now.

Should I ask to speak to the CFO directly? None of my references were contacted yet. Just sucks when I see other members get theirs approved (yes I understand having boxes checked would extend the process).

Stealthy1:

Yes....I would keep calling the CFO daily if I was you. That is too long for just one box checked for depression. They obviously need a kick in the butt to get your application finished. Be polite and tell them that others are getting approved that applied months after you, and your application has been reviewed and you need to do an interview with the CFO.

tell them that everytime you call and eventually you will get someone helpful and I'm sure your application will be approved in no time.

Should i call after the 45 days if i dknt see it online or let make its way trought? Its been 39 days excluding thanks giving

Hey there. it is going to take roughly 3 months before you see a cc charge and your info is confirmed received. calling before wont really do anything. They will tell you to wait for the payment to go through.
