I have been or will be contacted for additional info. So I phoned today (for first time) and I was advised I have to send them another photo because the first one wasn’t on photo paper. I wish it had specified that in the application so another 1-2 weeks wasn’t wasted. Will be mailing them another photo Monday. At least it seems my application will finally be approved soon after it’s received!

Actually make that Xpresspost.)

I just sent them a new photo this morning via Xpresspost. It will add 1-2 weeks to the 4-6 month processing time. Quite a range I know.

Actually if they caught it early enough it may not have much if any effect on your timeline. In my case they caught it at the bitter end - a week shy of 6 month point.

I believe it was 'caught' the day they looked at your file, but there is some d baggery that went on which is why it took them 2 months to inform you.

RPAL application in Quebec (no PAL previously):

Mailed: October 16th2020
Received: October 21st 2020
Visible on RCMP website: 12Feb2021
CC Charge: 12Feb2021
12Feb2021: Missing PAL course results, faxed in
26Feb2021: Was made aware I needed the SQ3007 form for RPAL in Quebec, go get it filled out at local police station, faxed in 28Feb2021
09Mar2021: "Completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

Called the QC CFO today, and the person said it has not yet been assigned and could be up to a 4 month waiting period once it reaches the Quebec CFO office.

I said to myself in my head " WTF? 4 months wait at the RCMP to open the application, and then up to another 4 month wait time once once your application is transferred to the CFO???"

She said to call back or write them back in 1 month to check the status. "I'll call again, thanks" as I could only imagine their email management...

Well, at least I know they have it. Seriously, these wait times are ridiculous...

And just like most government service, there's very little if any accountability when they screw up.

This is such BS.

The way I understand it (and was basically told by the RCMP) is that once it completes 'initial processing' that means it is forwarded to the CFO to make the decision (which according to their website is 45 days but could be 90 days with the covid excuse), it is my understanding that the initial process is checking to ensure all T's are crossed and I's are dotted, plus payment has been made before forwarding to CFO for approval.

These wait times are getting retarded. I just wish there was something that could be done to hold their feet to the fire over this BS. I doubt that the ombudsman or my MP would get any better results than just waiting, but honestly I am getting fed up myself it has been almost 6 months for an upgrade, I got my pal approved in exactly 28 days when I first applied, and would've been sooner had it not been for the waiting period I am sure. Covid is a pretty lame excuse for 5x longer wait.

I agree, another 4 months for a CFO to do some light paperwork and a few phone calls is ridiculous...
Looking back at previous posts, it does look like quebec takes forever for the final process unfortunately. BC and Alberta has been little as 2 days to a week. Im in BC hoping it changes sooner than later..

Applied for my PAL a little while ago and they told me I had to send another picture
Anyone knows how long the new picture is supposed to take to process?

why did they ask you to send another picture? How long have you been waiting? My wait was just over 19 months (March 22 2019-Oct 29 2020)
Was wondering if the picture would expire, Doesnt it say somewhere that the picture has to be within 6 months old? But i was not asked for new picture

Ontario
My timeline isn't really relevant because I had to send a replacement pic. But is as follows
-Application mailed Oct 8/20
-Received Oct 15/20
-Billed CC Feb 5/21. Then was informed by letter my photo wasn't acceptable, mailed replacement Feb 18/21
-Back to In Process Apr 9/21
-License issued Apr 11/21

I had same issue and there is my time line above. About 6 weeks added I guess.
