PAL Wait Time

Update from Alberta

PAL application received Feb 18

CC charged/initial review status May 12

Called RCMP May 24 - confirmed no missing info

Emailed AB CFO May 30 - they had not yet received my file

Emailed my MP June 8 - no reply as of yet

Application Processed, licence has been issued - June 14

applied for my new pal and now waiting
Application Received - 25 Apr
and that's about it. I guess I still have to wait at least 3 - 4 months more.

Not necessarily.
My Daughter’s application, from the time when cc was charged and online status showed up to “approved” took about 3 weeks

Maybe I’ll even get to buy something before the ban takes effect?

is anyone else having trouble calling the 1-800 number? I haven't been able to talk to anyone for 2 weeks. just on hold for 5-10 min and then disconnected! 1 time on hold for 45 min then disconnected.

mailed/received January 10
cc charged January 19
called and was told the cfo had the file on April 20
no updates since then. is there any way to get in contact with the cfo?

21-Feb-2022 Received

20-May-2022 Received mail stating that my payment was not received. I called same day and CC was charged. (I checked the previous week and wasn't able to view online but now I could view status online.)

20-Jun-2022 Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. Now wait for it in the mail.
 
Ontario PAL and RPAL

Application received January 28
CC charged April 6
Called 1-800 number to enquire about status on June 2
Was told - "We're backlogged. Call back in 2 months"

So I guess I'm totally screwed. By then the coalition will push through Bill C-21. Besides, the provincial CFO's are swamped with transfers so they're probably not even processing license applications. What a disaster.
 
I was told that there are huge backlogs on printing physical card in CFP. I was told to wait a month (July 15th) before calling back to check to see if the license hasn't arrived.

BTW my application was approved on June 14th

Received on 2022-02-03, which was promptly updated with the "We have completed the initial review of your firearms license application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date." message and has been saying this same thing for a while.
I emailed CFO-ON last week and they said they don't have it...
I moved recently and was wondering what I do about that? I only moved from my dads place to an apartment so I still have access to the mail there.

Trying to advance career so all help/advice is appreciated :') <3
 
Here is my timeline for Ontario, for a new RPAL/PAL application:

- Feb 19th application mailed (using regular mail)
- Feb 25th application received (determined from online status that appeared May 19th)
- May 19th credit card charged and online status appears showing initial review complete
- June 21st online status now shows your license has been issued

Best of luck for all those still waiting...

CC charged early April
Did get ahold of Ontario CFO office last week, says application was received end of May and everything on it is correct. Agent I spoke to says "it's making good time"

Told me it could take another 8 months, am I missing something here? What the hell is going on.

Big burst of restricted buys and RPAL applications slowing down an already backlogged system. Many CFOs gave specifically pulled people off licensing to get them to process the huge amount of buys.

It's nasty out there.

my daughter's minor PAL had almost same timeline as your. The initial review was done around May 5. The license was issued June 15 as online showed. I haven't received it yet.
You sure the agent said 8 months, not 8 weeks?

If you’ve been waiting from February to June with initial review completed and still not at CFO, maybe call the toll free number (good luck getting through) to see if there’s an issue with the picture scanning? I recall this is done before sending to CFO (but after the “initial review”, at least when I applied in Fall 2021), and if there’s an issue your file could be in a queue to send a notification letter, and with all the recent dynamics they’re probably more delayed than before.
