PAL Wait Time

Hi, I'm a Manitoba resident. Thought id share my timeline for getting me PAL. I'd recommend new applicants really go over their application with a fine tooth comb as missing any information can really slow down the approval time.
Timeline:
March 1, 2022 - Mailed application
May 25, 2022 - RCMP charge my CC
June 2, 2022 - RCMP sent back application as I missed info. Sent application back same day.
August 10, 2022 - Called RCMP to follow up on application. Was instructed to call be in 30 days if no progress via the online tracking.
September 29, 2022 - Called RCMP to follow up on application. Was instructed to call be in 30 days if no progress via the online tracking.
October 26, 2022 - Application now on CFO's desk for final approval.
November 25, 2022 - Called RCMP as I had to update some phone numbers on application.
January 4, 2023 - Called RCMP to follow up on application. Was instructed to call be in 30 days if no progress via the online tracking, but confirmed my application is on CFO's desk.
February 8, 2023 - Called RCMP main line, was then forwarded to Manitoba CFO office. Lady was able to get my application approved.
February 28, 2023 - Received physical card.

Hey guys, I am looking for help or advices here. I’ve never posted anything and don’t even know how which is why I just wrote here by clicking reply…. my issue is this:

I am looking for answers and guidance and wondering if someone would be able and so kind to help me with my current situation.
I am due to renew my RPAL for the 6th time before the expiration date of October 2023.
My parents sold their house and moved in with me on my 50 acre property. My brother who was living with them is now also living in my house (although temporarily). He is or I should say for the moment he was the black sheep of the family and has a criminal record with an interdiction to possess any firearms.

I was in the process of renewing my RPAL online when I noticed one of their questions asking the following: “ Is any member of your household prohibited from possessing any firearm?(required) “

I would like to know before proceeding with my renewal what complications could I face in the process.

I am a firearms collector with a few dozens restricted and now prohibited firearms as well as a few more dozens hunting firearms.
Each and everyone of them are securely stored in firearms safes in a room with a professional alarm system and no one but me can open these safes.

My questions are:
1) should I expel my brother before renewing my RPAL in order to play it safe?
2) Allowing him to remain; what are the likelihood of being refused the renewal of my RPAL?

thanks to anyone that can help.

cheers

PAL application sent in via online I did check a box because of them doing a lifetime record check I had an assault charge with a 2 year weapon ban "no weapons used" 10 years ago but clean otherwise since then will that effect me from getting my PAL also from ontario

Any luck? And what do you mean with lifetime background check

I applied in September of 2022 and the portal only states the initial review has been completed. It is now March 2023. I was born in Canada. I do not think your place of birth is the issue. Not sure why some people are getting their licenses in under two months while some of us are stuck in limbo. Strange.

It’s brutal, being stuck in limbo gives me anxiety lol. I have a buddy with a previous assault charge and got his license in a month. I’m at 2.5 months now with nothing

Here's a timeline that should give some other newbies like myself some hope...
April 21st - Submitted application, immediately went to initial review has been completed and CC charged
May 20th - License approved and card has been issued - , exactly 1 day after the mandatory 28 day waiting period and they have already approved it. Submitted online and have had no prior significant contact with law enforcement or anything like that.

I really didn't expect such a quick approval at all

PUMPED!

Ontario here. Sent in my PAL application by snail mail in late November and only got the email that I've been approved yesterday after both calling and emailing the CFO. I was told on the phone that there's a 6 month delay that they're still catching up and to expect it June. Then I got an email the next day saying I've been approved and the card will be mailed out to me within 2 to 4 weeks. No references were contacted. Seems to be a lot of different experiences out there in getting the PAL.

How long were you waiting during the “initial review complete” stage? I’m at 69 days waiting

Quick question...I applied for rpal and PAL at the same time. Would they hold back a license intentionally because of the rpal and current laws? I only applied for rpal in case laws change and possible job opportunities.

Quebec Resident here’s my timeline; (PAL only)

Course passed end of December 2022 (don’t remember the date)
Rcvd Documents roughly end of January 2023
Application rcvd (Online) : Feb 14th 2023
Cc charged: Feb 14th 2023 (or relatively soon after application was received)
Application status Change: We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date. (March 9th 2023)

I have emailed Quebec’s CFO email (bcafe@surete.qc.ca) twice regarding the status of my application but each time I get messages from what seems to be an auto-responder saying they will contact me should they require more information. I asked in both emails to highlight any holds, warnings, or any other factors conducive to the delay I am currently experiencing however I have not received an answer. When I phone the CFO the option to inquire on the status of the PAL application (in Quebec) says that communications and exchanges are only conducted via email. It is also worth noting that I asked various times for the direct contact info of a CFO as their extension (7005) indicates that they only communicate via email… Today May24th 2023 I called the CFP for all of Canada and explained the backwardness of only having communications via email to which he agreed was nonsensical and that he’s never heard of that.

Is there anyone here (specifically from Quebec) who would have any information as to how to speed the process or at least speak to someone who can view my application status in real time? I have no criminal records, few minor traffic violations, and checked ‘no’ to all boxes.

Sorry if this post comes off as whiny as I see many other members having to wait much longer even for renewals, I am just so excited to go out and start hunting and plinking and the wait is draining.

Thanks in advance.

How long did your references took to digitally sign your application? Mine took one week after I completed the application on my side.

Ontario RPAL expiry 4/7/24.
Applied for renewal online on 4/10/23.
Initial review completed the same week.
Received my new license yesterday.
A total of 45 days.
Surprised.

Got my license a few days ago, here is my timeline for Alberta, with an online submission.

February 20th took PAL
February 20th went home and applied online
March 9th, status changed to initial review completed blah blah blah
May 1st, I started calling the RCMP weekly for an update and emailing my CFO weekly.
My file was sent to the Alberta CFO for review in March and sat there for weeks
May 26th, called RCMP, they transferred me to my provincial CFO who approved and processed it over the phone while I waited.

Total wait time 3 months and 6 days
Total emails 4
Total phone calls 4

Ours (new PAL applications) came in, in seven weeks, start to finish. I was surprised, as we’d been told to expect six-plus months. A friend applied for his RPAL, and it was ten months to receive his license.

Did you check any boxes?

2023-04-01 took course
2023-04-03 mailed out the application
2023-04-11 application received / CC charged

--- update 2023/06/07 ---
Called RCMP and was told the application already went to CFO
Called Manitoba CFO (ext 8004) and was told they are currently working on renewals from 2022.
Asked how long I should wait before the next call. Told me 'Just wait for months'. :)

--- update 2023/06/29
Called Manitoba CFO again. This time was picked up by a nice lady.
After providing the necessary information waited a few mins, I was told it was just approved.

Total waiting time less than 3 months.
