PAL Wait Time

I come to find that the day I received my RPAL in the mail, that my second reference hadn't even been spoken to yet.

They only talk to one. They ask for two as a backup in case there's no answer at the first number. No answer at either and they move to the next application and you go back into the queue.

Mine showed up as issued last Friday. I was really hoping it'd be here today. But, damn, it's 1600 now and no mail
I guess with the long weekend, I'll have to wait until at least Tuesday. I was looking at picking up an SKS tonight to have something to tinker at all weekend. Damn.

Hey yawl..

Just a reminder.. to pay your traffic tickets if you want your PAL!!!

I called RCMP on June 20th..three weeks ago and was told to call back if I haven't recieved my License by July 10th. So Naturally, I got excited...'cause it was on it's way. Called RCMP today (July 10th) to find out what is taking so long.. no status updates.

Well.. turns out... I have a Warrant for my arrest in Quebec because of un-paid traffic tickets. I got flagged. My PAL is literally sitting on someones desk..
It cannot be processed until this matter before the Quebec courts is solved... I was very surprised to hear that because I haven't lived in Montreal since 2015 and I didn't know I had tickets. .and I'm D/Z truck driver.. the tickets didn't even show up on my CVOR.

So long story short.. pay your tickets in any and all Provinces and Territories if you want a PAL.

It's silly, I know..but don't be a fool like me. Pay the Piper.

Happy Trails,

Happy Trails,

Warrant for your arrest for traffic tickets?

I've never heard that one before.

@amkorp -They operate under Civil Law.

Some guy named SWIM in Montreal did 3 months in jail for not paying his traffic tickets.
He had a warrant out for his arrest and couldn't pay the monies when they caught up with him, so he did the time instead.

I payed it by visa and got receipt. It's done, finished and over with.

*Thought somebody here might find that useful.

Just seems a little extreme, is all. Especially if they make no effort to get in contact with you. Sheesh!

PAL got approved on june 27. Still haven't received the card in the mail. Anyone experienced such long delivery time? Is it time to call the office?

Yeah it is a bit extreme.. I got the new 10 year Passport and that didn't show up? Doesn't that stuff show up ?

Maybe they tried to contact me.. but I'm too busy driving a garbage truck picking up dog #### and baby diapers all day to look at my phone and wonder who just called me.

Here's the timeline for both my wife and I...

2017:
May 27 & 28 took courses (CFSC on the 27th & CRCSF on the 28th)
May 27 sent our applications via three day Canada Post to Miramichi
June 1 applications received in Miramichi.
July 7 information available online showing initial processing.
July 10 references called in to give interviews.
July 11 Credit cards charged.
July 13 Application processed and license issued.
July 20 Licenses arrived in the mail.

50 days from the date they received the paperwork to and including the day we received our licenses.

Other info worth noting:
Neither my wife nor I have any kind of criminal record (not even a speeding ticket).
We went over our applications multiple times to make sure everything was correct.
We made sure our pictures were the correct size and were very clear.
We truthfully answered all questions.
All questions such as "have you gone through a brake up, bankruptcy?" etc. were a NO for us.
We were each other's photo guarantor.
We made sure there was no chance the credit card we were using would expire any time soon or not have available funds.

She: 97% on CFSC
She: 92% on CRFSC

I: 100% on CFSC
I: 98% on CRFSC

Also, if you're looking to take your C(R)FSC I would recommend Opinder at SafeShooter in Surrey, BC.
Opinder marked our tests and handed us our results within 10 minutes of course completion (no waiting 3 weeks for it to arrive in the mail).

I hope this helps.

Frustrated with delivery time. Got PAL issued on June 27. Still haven't received it. Phoned Miramichi after two weeks, i was told to wait another week. It is closed to 20 days now and I am pretty sure it is lost with canada post. Miramichi wont send a new card until I call them next week. This wait is more frustrating than waiting for approval. Any one had such a long delivery time?

I just saw today that my application has been processed and my license issued, so I'll post my timeline here for info. Overall a lot faster than I expected, I had heard stories of nine months or more and was expecting at least six. I'm a BC boy if it matters.

  • April 27, 2017 - application received
  • May 29, 2017 - Visa charge from RCMP appears
  • July 8, 2017 - reference #1 receives letter in mail requesting they call in
  • July 18, 2017 - application approved and license issued, may take up to 2 weeks to receive it says; this feels like the longest part of the wait and it hasn't even been a day!

Some notes:
  • I didn't call them even once, I was too busy with other things and I was sure this was going to slow things down a lot
  • They only contacted one reference, and (coincidentally?) he was the one who had his RPAL; my other reference was my mother as she happened to be handy when I was completing the app. She is a civilian employee of the RCMP so maybe they did contact her and she didn't bother to tell me?
  • They did not contact myself or my wife at all, despite her being the photo guarantor and, well, my spouse; I really thought this was a big deal and that she would definitely get a call
  • I had (truthfully) all the right answers to all the questions, and no previous relationships to report
