PAL Wait Time

BC CFO now requires form completion for application to specify Target or Collector status (you can still target shoot with the Collector status) before determining if the RPAL/PAL is renewed. Interestingly, it would seem that the actual expiry date is of little concern.

I really haven't decided yet! I said to myself when I first passed my course that the first gun I wanted was an AR15. However, I need to join a club and get an ATT before I can even purchase a restricted firearm. So I don't know yet. I'll have to go to NAS Guns and Ammo to see what they have. I have a 10% off coupon there so that will help.

I'm going to try calling to see if I can get my PAL number and expiration date so I can give it to the club I want to join. Then I can get to buying online lol.

What are you thinking for your first?
My first was made day of. Now it’s a waiting game to see if the card comes before the guns. I got a Daniel defense m4 version 7 and a sig m17 pistol.

Just called, the lady on the phone gave me my PAL number and said my card should be sent out today or tomorrow. At least I can give my number to the club I want to join..... And get in on some online deals hehe...

You don't need to be a range member to get a restricted or an ATT. You just tell them you got to ranges around your area with friends that are members. Don't let anyone bs and say you have to be a member of a club to buy a restricted.

december 11th 2018 : call rcmp, told my application is in final process, with quebec cfo, shouldnt take too long at this point and to call back in two or three weeks if i dont have my pal.

december 17th 2018 : Your application has been processed and your application has been issued.

MAN THAT FEELING.

Is it safe to call RCMP to get PAL number and order a gun online before receiving the card?

After all I'm legal, I just dont have the paper in hand yet?

This is news to me! I thought that you had to send the RCMP a copy of your range membership before they can assign you an ATT.

I was just able to call and get my PAL number and my card hasn't come in. I would say it's safe to assume you can order one online without the card, I just wouldn't go anywhere without it.

Someone know how long it take to receive the card, CFO told me 7 to 10 business but I hope it get in faster than that.

PAL card is sent from RCMP in miramichi or from provincial CFO?

Not 100% sure where it's sent from, but my understanding is that once Miramichi completes the initial check, they send it over electronically to the CFO for approval.

CFO approves, and then Miramichi prints off your licence.

Status of my application was changed to issued on Dec. 12th. Have yet to receive it, but I'll be willing to bet it's in the mail when I get home from work today.

VICTORY!!!

Finally, after calling and calling and calling I finally got my PAL

I called into my CFO to see what's going on with my application, and I was told that they didn't receive my CFSC report after it being received to the RCMP 3 weeks ago! So I asked if there was a way to sent my report to them asap and the review officer told me her email address to send the report directly to her, and sure enough I was approved! Now I can pick up some ammo that's on sale lol. Just goes to show you that you have to keep on top of things in order to get what you want.

It took me since October 29th to finally get approved, it was long but It was well worth it!

You've got to call the CFO directly and politely tell them your plight. Ask to see if everything is on the up-and-up and get as much info as you can about your application. That's what I did, I just kept on calling and calling till they gave me a suitable answer, but you have to be polite.

My Pal/RPAL process (first time applicant in BC)

October 17th&19th 2018 Took CFSC/CRFSC
November 2nd 2018 Received CFSC/CRFSC report from instructor
November 7th 2018 Application mailed via Canada Post express (paid $18 instead of regular $6 registered mail because I was afraid it might get jammed up with the strike)
November 13th 2018 Application received in Miramichi
December 6th 2018 CC charged and application appeared online (typical "Initial process completed please check back at a later date")
December 18th 2018 Application processed and license issued.

Total approx. 35 days since application was delivered (Clean record, no boxes checked)

Honestly, I was surprised, I thought being so close to Christmas I would most likely have to wait till Jan/Feb 2019. I don't even plan on calling them till after new year.
I guess now I have to call the CFO (I assume?) to get my license number, got some last minute additions to my holiday shopping list.

i already waiting for 5 months montreal
Anyone here dealed with Quebec CFO recently?

I called RCMP yesterday, they told me my application is in final stage, with the quebec cfo, and that it should not be very long from there and to call back in 2 weeks if I dont have my PAL.

So my hope was high but on the other end some people on another thread were told by quebec cfo that the waiting time is currently 4-6 months in CFO which is crazy.

If RCMP told me its in final process and to call back in two weeks, its because they know something I dont, or I'll wait till april for the cfo?

Current timeline for my application. Located in Calgary, AB:

Sept. 22, 2018 - Completed CFSC (Only completed non-restriction portion as I hate shooting handguns and don't have the money for it)
Sept. 26,2018 - Mailed in application to Miramichi, only for Non-restricted PAL
Oct. 1, 2018 - Received at RCMP office, confirmed by registered mail (all days counted from this day forward)
Nov. 1, 2018 - Application status online "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." (22 business days, 31 total days)
Nov. 2, 2018 - CC charged (23 business days, 32 total days)
Nov. 14, 2018 - Called RCMP number to check on application. Was told timeline could range anywhere from 45 - 90 days for completion (30 business days, 44 total days)
Nov. 26th, 2018 - Called again to check. Was told there was no issues and that I was still within the specified 45 - 90 days for completion. Instructed to call back in 9 weeks (LOL) if I still didn't have the licence. (39 business days, 56 total days)
Dec. 4th, 2018 - Called again to check. Was told that the typical completion time was 45 BUSINESS days and that I was still within that window. Current application was in its final stage of review prior to being sent off to the Alberta CFO for final approval. Instructed to call back if I still didn't have my card in hand by the end of the month (44 business days, 64 total days thus far)

I'm amazed that it is taking this long for me to only get a non-restricted PAL. I didn't check off any boxes, have no criminal history, and have no previous exes I need to worry about.

I'm a little annoyed as I missed the black Friday sales and will most likely miss the boxing day sales as well. Winchester is having a wicked sale with a rebate on their PA SXP models and I would have loved to scoop one of those up before the new year.

Update:

Dec. 12th, 2018 - Status updated on website to issued
Dec. 18th, 2018 - Licence received in the mail

54 business days, 78 total days from first received in Miramichi to card in hand.

Went to Cabela's the night I got my PAL and I am now the proud owner of a Mossberg 500 Classic field, a Winchester SXP, a Marlin 795 .22LR, and a mountain of ammo.
