PAL Wait Time

No idea, all they told me was that I was flagged and to sit tight when I called them shortly after submitting my app. 6 months later out of the blue cfo called me to ask about the charges from 1993 and approved me on the spot.
So you were flagged about a case from 1993? That’s what I wonder about. The application regards 5 years. But they are digging into charges from 25 years ago? Was it a conviction? Or just charges. As I hear now they will consider you guilty of any charges, whesrher guilty or not. Acquitted. Differed. Youth casea even. Felt pretty solid about my app until hearing they can judge you guilty of cases you beat 20 years back.

Charges that was eventually thrown out , I did like 3 months of dead time though.

The 5 year background check is bS, they already looking from date of birth even before c71 was announced.

To be honest. That really sucks. I wouldn’t have bothered at all if I knew the five years meant nothing. Also some one should never be held accountable for charges that didn’t stick. No record should mean no record. Not there’s a whole different record that’s off the books. Guilt has to be proven. But seems they assumed yours regardless of the time elapsed. I’ve heard guys getting delayed a year. Or even refused over fights in grade school.

My timeline so far...
Oct 2. Application received in Miramichi.
Nov 5. Appears online
Nov 26. Day 56 Called rcmp and was told it's with my cfo (Alberta)
Talked with cfo office and was told no missing info and if I dont hear anything in 9 weeks to call back. Painful..

UPDATE
Dec 6 Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

I generally start my application process 6-7 months before it expires.... For this reason exactly... Look at how long it's taking everyone to renew.. If it's going to be like this, I may just start the renewal process 8 months sooner. I do my process online. It's so quick and easy.

Any update on ur app?

No update as of yet but it’s only been 32 days. No calls to me or my references as of yet. Judging by recent Alberta timelines. Seems 60-90 is the norm for squeaky clean folk. So I’ve pretty well came to think. To hell with it. It’s gonna be a year. Haha. I figure I will call and inquire at 45 days. Last I checked it was going to photo scan. Which can take 2 weeks. ( smells a little funny. It’s 2018. It doesn’t take 2 weeks. Nothing takes 2 weeks) then I will call to see if I can do interview or have references do theirs.

Ive been really getting my hopes up of getting it before Christmas but i agree from the sounds of it another month or more is expected for us ( alberta as well ).

Honestly i don't understand how this process can take anywhere close to 45 days. I mean a 16 year old can get a vehicle license on the same day he passes test, and to me a vehicle can be just as deadly if not more than a firearm.

I was too. I have everything picked out already. Even already have optics. Eyes and ears. Range bags. Mags. Anything I found on Black Friday. But now I am seeing it’s going to be a very long wait. And possible refusal. Time to go back to building cars.

Stay positive!! You'd have to be a threat to public safety for you to be denied. I know the wait is unbearable but it's out of your control so just keep reading and learning until you have your license.

I am at 45 days today and nothing yet. For some reason I had high hope today because my application showed up online exactly 28 days after they received it lol.

Guess I'll call monday to be told to call back in a few weeks ahaha.

Decided to give them a call today just to see if they could tell me if ill need references called and if my picture has been scanned. Nice lady said currently my application is going through some sort of screening right now and i may be called by them or cfo if anything comes up i suppose. Little worried to be honest. At most a speeding ticket on my record. Anyone been told this additional screening part?

haha I know. I’m just mad my past will add a 9 months to a year wait.

It’s the cfo that does final approvals. And references and screening. So if you have a clean record and your refs pick up. You will be getting it soon. You could call the cfo and ask for the file number and if your reffeeences can call in. That will take the random out of it worth a few minutes on hold for sure.

Checked the status of my application for PAL today and see the following message:

"Current Status: Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date."

Does this mean there is an issue? I see other people are getting "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." so wonder if I'm missing some information...

I was planning on calling Monday anyway but wanted to see if others know whether this is likely a problem or not.

It sounds like it, possibly some missing info or payment issues. I would call and ask what is needed.

That's literally word for word what I was told yesterday when I called and then I looked online later in the day at my license was issued. I was also told during a previous call that they dont call references in Alberta anymore.
