PAL Wait Time

Agree with your suggestion for others. When my last PAL renewal was up in 2018, I was less than one year removed from a job loss AND in the midst of a divorce, both of which contributed SIGNIFICANTLY in the delay of processing my renewal (and as it was a renewal, I did the thing online). If I remember right, it was close a year for a renewal, and they ended up interviewing me (even though my PAL was renewed like 3 times before then) and took forever to get a hold of my ex, who of course argued against the renewal (long story there, she was being directed by the convicted felon that she was seeing at the time) - and CFP went back and forth with subsequent interviews with me. But ultimately, I had my PAL renewed, thankfully.

Despite what the CFP will say in the status message that if they need further info they will contact the applicant, in reality that does not seem to be the case and it is, unfortunately, incumbent on the applicant to chase, prod, and inquire about the application. A number of folks here have indicted that their CFO's office has been helpful so I agree with Ryinski's suggestion to try there...and keep it professional and courteous - it definitely helps.

I would like to ask, how were they like on the phone when interviewing? Were they really bearing down? I heard stories of them being full on Gestapo on the phone.

Well, it's like anything else in life. You react aggressively or defensively, it won't be a positive experience.

I concern myself less with how people talk with me and how I respond. There are many times you can diffuse an otherwise potentially contentious situation with not responding in kind. Similarly you can exacerbate and make a situation worse by being snide, impatient, condescending, etc. - even if it is in response to others. You can see it here on CGN - phone conversations are really not much different. But YMMV.

My license was issued on November 2nd. It's now the 18th (16 days later)

Does it usually take this long to mail?

Edit: apparently they haven't even printed it yet

Apparently they print once a week - someone had alluded to that earlier. I don't know when that time of week that is. If they approve it the day after the regular print date, add an extra week to the time. And remember, being government employees, it is doubtful they work weekends, so factor that in too.

Yea, that's true.

They should be mindful that we paid money for this service

Did the online renewal based on your guys complaining it takes months to get the license renewed. Since the license expires in February I felt, based on you guys, that I better get it done very early.
Filled in the online form included a photo and geared my self for waiting months if not well into the new year.
Submitted on October 17, 2022, received new license November 16, 2022!!!!!!
HOLY CRAP!!!!! That was FAST and effortless!!!!!

New member here. It's been very informative to read this thread to get an idea of how long it is taking or has taken to get an RPAL. I thought I'd update my stats here as well to help with this process:

Alberta RPAL Registration
RPAL form sent by snail mail (ie. regular Canada Post): Sept 21, 2022
Application received by CFP: Sept 27, 2022 - Apparently Canada Post regular mail didn't take that long to get there (AB to NB). I was pleasantly surprised by this.
Credit Card Charged: Nov 10, 2022
Notice of "Application processed and license has been issued": Nov 18, 2022

The current status is that note indicating: "if your license doesn't show up in 2 weeks, please contact the CFP via that 1-800 number".

Will keep you posted when card shows up in the mail. Hopefully, this happens sometime in early December. That would be a perfect early Christmas present from the CFP.

That's great! I'm a bit jealous what with all the sales on right now giving me FOMO.
Did it not even show the "initial review has been completed, we'll contact you if we need more info" step?

Sorry... yes, that initial review step was shown at the same time as when they showed when they received the application. I'm assuming that everything must have looked ok in my submission that led to the quick initial review.

Just called the CFO for an update and was informed it's with the CFO for final review. Nothing has changed on the RCMP site to reflect that but good to know there's been some movement at least.

Just got an email from Kam, I hear that is not the best news, though I already know with my questionable history I'll be waiting a while.

Canned response that my application has been forwarded to the CFO for standard review.

Kam does the interviews right?

Wonder what I should do...

Ontario R-PAL Update | Fresh (new) application.

On November 6, 2022, status in RCMP IWS changed to "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number (1-800-731-4000)".

Called CFP today, November 21, 2022, as per the above instructions. Was told that my licence is still waiting to be printed.

I think you should just sit tight and wait. You have shared on your other posts your anxiety with how you perceived that getting into a fight when you were younger may affect your application. Don't self-sabotage yourself before you find out anything concrete.

You waiting a while may be true with this Kam guy processing your application (based on what others have said), but don't automatically draw a conclusion that you are doomed or something. It's a very hard headspace to be in to always think the worst will happen - believe me I have been there and I can say in most cases, my fears/pessimism turn out to be unfounded.

You don't need to get yourself into self-fulfilling prophecy before anything happens. It is a positive development that you got to the CFO review stage. Truth is, lots of people get stuck here for a myriad of reasons; some may be simply administrative. Just sit tight and wait and check up with the CFO's office now and again.

Their (presumably) single printer must have run out of ink or something. Someone else posted that they were told that the cards are only collectively only printed once a week. Guess I should just wait a couple of weeks rather than checking my mailbox everyday.

I find myself in a little bit more optimistic mood than before.

Hopefully C-21 goes on past the following Summer break, I would most likely get it if that happens.

They got my app in April.

I might get my MP if my application goes till next August just in case, so I can get it right before Royal Assent, looks like it might very well be September/October.

C-71 was 2 months earlier than C-21 and got Royal Assent in June, so...

Much better security with a PAL than without.

Today is a very crucial day btw, they're reviewing the Bill clause by clause.

I just got reply from office, can somebody help me understand what can i expect ?

Thank you for your email.

Your application has been forwarded to us at the Chief Firearms Office for standard review on 2022/07/08. At this time, we are not able to provide a date of completion. Please expect a 9-month delay.

Signed intials were -/ KP.

APP. recieved april 8, 2022. Still nothing after july 6 cc charged . ONTARIO

It's interesting - the last two posters had their applications received in April, yet no movement. Yet there are others who had theirs received in August/Sept who have had it processed.

I wonder whether it's the same person who has the older batch that has not been acting on it. There otherwise does not seem to be any common denominator aside from date received (could be that the earlier applications were put on hold due to processing of the large transfer quantities from May onward, but that's just best guess). At least with the second above message, it said KP...hopefully that's not KAM'S new signature...
