PAL Wait Time

What do you mean by " no boxes checked". These swindlers told me minimum 6 months and I did everything online and everything has been okay'd. They're basically just waiting until it hits the 6 month mark I suppose.

Meaning I don’t have anything in my history which would delay the process - no mental health issues or criminal convictions etc.

Update

Hi folks! New person here in QC, I'm still waiting for my PAL and I would like to share my timeline:

23/07/2023: CFSC in-person class, theory & practical exams
28/07/2023: CFSC pass result received
31/07/2023: Quebec IHF completed
01/08/2023: Paper application posted
03/08/2023: Delivered, waiting game starts…
14/08/2023: Credit card charged
15/08/2023: On portal: We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application blablabla...

Update: licence issued in 12/09/2023, total waiting time 40 days, none of the references were contacted. Never expected this can be that fast in Quebec! Good job!

This may seem like a strange question but are you male or female? I've heard recently females are getting pushed through immediately. Not sure if there's any truth to it.

I'm in ontario and submitted my application online on april 1st. When i check my status all it says is application successfully submitted..

I called the rcmp office a few times and was told my application is with the ontario cfo and they have no idea how long it will take.

This morning I emailed the ontario cfo and had a reply within an hour saying they are approving my application and to expect my card in the mail in 2-4 weeks. Makes me think if I hadn't sent a message they would have just left my application on the pile.

Tomorrow is week 18. Was hoping to go hunting at least once before my cancer spreads and I'm hospital bound. Just got 3rd cancer diagnosis in less than a year. Blast those covid vaxxes...turbo-cancer is real!

I believe you will go hunting at whatever time, as you want.

The CFO just sits on applications for no reason apparently, please call the number online on the RCMP firearms program website and inquire about your licence as to where it is stuck and if you can provide more info.

I did not hear anything or see any changes for 7 months, finally reached out to them, apparently they called one of the references who didn’t pickup or return the call and they never followed up, I got that cleared up and had my licence in 15 days.

What e-mail address did you sent your mail? Did you only ask them for the status of your application? I called RCMP today and I had exactly the same response as you had on the phone.

Miramichi received my application on the 24th of March. Since then, it's been showing "We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date."

It's almost the end of September. Been roughly 185 days since anything has happened. Although a few months ago, I got a letter about the card that I used. They were unable to charge it or something, so I corrected that, and sent that back to them.
Since then, I've been eagerly checking the mail and the application status. Was hoping to get my license at least sometime before 2024 before college and work get in the way. Spoke with them on the phone at least twice.

Received my RPAL, Ontario 2023 after a wait of 216 days :)

CFSC; CRFSC completed on February 22nd and March 2nd respectively.
Application sent in on March 15th
Credit Card Charged on April 6th
Application Forwarded from Miramachi, NB to Ontario CFO on May 1, 2023
After almost 6 months of waiting (current backlog time of Ontario CFO), file assigned to Firearms Officer on September 18th
Application approved from CFO on September 19th, 2023 and card printed on September 20th
Card received in Mail on September 26th

My application process was exactly the same, submitted May 1st I received my card in the mail a week ago....10 days after emailing the CFO directly. I was very surprised to get a response at all. I guess a polite email could help anyone waiting on approval.

I sent a very polite email to the CFO and I got the same generic response as I did 2 months ago.

Thank you for your email. Your application has been forwarded to us at the Chief Firearms Office for standard review. At this time, we are not able to provide a date of completion. Please expect a 6-month delay from the date received by the Canadian Firearm Program *2023/07/17* for initial review.
You can check the status of your application online here: https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/firearms/individual-web-services

I guess I just have to be more patient. I just feel like something like this shouldn't really be taking half a year. If I worked this slow, I'd be out of business in no time lol :d

Well, I just heard back from the Ontario CFO about my PAL application I submitted 5 months ago, they said it was received, all references were approved, and now it will take up to a further 6 months for initial review. So for some reason with no criminal or mental health issues in my background, it will take the CFO almost a year to rubber stamp my application for me to get my license. Talked to a buddy of mine out in Alberta who took the course there around the same time as I did mine here, and it took 2.5months for the card to arrive. Why do some provinces just not care about citizens wanting to lawfully possess a firearm for hunting and target shooting purposes?

Ontario is the wrong province for anything, unless you enjoy walking down the street and being assaulted randomly, or you have enough money in the bank to utilize all the corruption to your advantage.

i emailed the Alberta CFO again. I applied in early March with no updates since references completed/credit card charged.

This time I got a reply in the same day (last time it was months) saying the same thing as last time. That it could be 12-18 months for new applications.

Ughhhhhhhh.
