PAL Waiting Time

Just wanted to get some feedback or advice about the PAL. I applied for both my Restricted and Non Restricted Licenses and now have been waiting for about 7months! I have no idea why they are taking so long and I have called them a number of times.

The last time I called was about 3 months ago and they told me it would be another 2 months. I havent been able to follow that up because I was not in the country but I have returned now and will call as soon as possible.

Has it taken anyone this long to get their PAL. From browsing through these forums it seems as though most people have got it within a month or two or at most 3 months.

On their website it says:

(Application Received on: 2009/02/11

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. )

Also they called me and my references right away within 30days of receiving the application and that was all positive.

Any advice or feedback is welcome. Thanks.

I had a really really minor incident with the Police a few years ago which was really a misunderstanding and was solved and I explained that in the application, but I don't have a record, never even been charged or anything like that.

i've read it took 9 months to some guy here cause he has the same name and birthdate as a local criminal. Talk about coincidence.

This is really frustrating I called them today and they said that the CFO wants to talk to my spouse and they had not heard from me about that even though I went through the whole process to get my wife to talk to them already and now they are saying they have no record of that.

And they won't even give me a number to call the CFO so I can get my wife to call but instead I have to wait for him to contact me whenever that may be again.

Already its been 7months and its really frustrating but seems like I just have to wait now there's nothing more I can do for now.

Aren't they legally required to give you the number if you ask for it? THEY work for us, not the other way around.

There are no law specifically say they MUST do something, but I always go by the old saying "you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar" ;)

If had some kind of run in with the law in your younger days, your Provincial CFO might be doing a expend the search against the rest of country, just to cover all their bases.

Well now they are saying that the CFO wants to talk to my spouse and that there is no way I can contact him so I have to wait until he calls me.

It has been 1 week since they told me that and I have not received a call from him yet. Should I call them back to see whats going or just keep waiting a little longer and see what happens?

I know a guy who waited 9 months because he screwed up the the month / day / year part of the application and paid by cheque.

If you are in BC you may be in for quite a wait. It seems the CFO is "very busy" or so they tell me. I'm waiting on my two son's minor licenses. 67 days and waiting. No problems with the application. Just that the CFO "will get around to it when he can".

GRRRrrrrrrr.!

I posted in the other thread about the PAL in Progress...

So far I've had reasonably fast progress with mine. All interviews are done, now just wondering what the next step is. Plan on calling the CFC tomorrow and finding out. Don't want to be a pest, just would like to know.

This has been discussed at length in the "PAL in progress" page. Times range from the 28 mandatory waiting period (as it was with mine) to 6+ months. Don't hold your breath.

GRRRrrrrrrr.!

My PAL was granted pretty quickly. It took them about 40 days for them to mail the license to me. I had a few other friends who applied roughly the same time as me (early July) and they all got their PAL already. Not sure why there is a hold up.
