Lazerus2000,
Some very informative posts. Hunting with an original AR-10 would have been something.
The LR-308 aka AR-10 that I have has a 24 inch bull barrell (this thing is big). Since this is a range gun due to it's registration as restricted (Which it shouldn't be, but that's another story) I'm hoping for some really good accuracy. Most seem to hit less than 1 inch at 100, with the right ammo. So we'll see. The mags for this one are apparently compatible with the original AR-10 and the SR-25. I believe they are listed as steel and appear to be well made.
I'll be starting with some regular nothing fancy 155 grain ammo since I have some on hand. I bought a couple of boxes of 165 grain Fusion ammo (boat tailed hunting ammo by federa). After that I'll be trying out the 168, 175 etc grain various match grade stuff and anything on sale that has promise
.
The accuracy reports on these rifles have been very good. Hopefully I won't be disapointed. Also I have a double stage Rock river arms match trigger on the way, and a Panther tactical grip. I plan on replacing the plastic butt pad on the stock with a rubber one to make sure any recoil doesn't wreck my enjoyment. I don't mind recoil as long as hard plastic isn't jabbing into me. After that I'm hoping it will be a real delight to shoot. I've already cleaned it, oiled it etc. Every now and then I go my safe and open it up just to look at it. I just bought a new safe with a keypad on it so this is much easier to do now
