Parker hale m82-m87-C3-C3A1 Rifles

Nice pics LE, thanks for posting.

From what I can dee on my phone: bottom picture looks like they've got the old Unertl mount with some type of SIMRAD cap and rail. Possible modified since I thought the Unertl mounts screwed together from the bottom? Anybody recognize the scope?

The upload data says the pic is from May 2013, the shooters are TV network people, one or more of whom were Honorary Colonels.

The rings are the regular C3A1 Unertl rings, the scope is a 1" Leupold (Varix3) capped target scope probably a 4-12x or a 4.5-14x

The Unertl was likely "liberated" or damaged, or the Leupold was a stop gap towards the Pic rail and S&B...lots to speculate, but by 2013 the C3 was supposedly mostly in a training role.

The simrad cap attaches from the bottom just like on the regular rings. I'll see if I can upload a photo.

Was talking to some of the Navy special forces guys at the Defence on the Docks event in Victoria a couple of weeks back. The C3A1's are no longer in use. I wonder what will happen to them?

They have the C21 currently in 338 but no scopes to go with them (apparently they are still trying to decide which scope to purchase). Also the C20 semi auto in 7.62 but again no scope. The guys were all dressed in Cadpat arid but seem to be lacking a lot of other equipment including new pistols, flashbangs etc.

C3A1 rifles were used in sniper qualification only a year ago - the Navy clearance divers may no longer have them...!?

M85 manual is available as a pdf from internet archive:
https ://ia801300.us.archive.org/25/items/Parker-Hale-Sniper-Rifle-M85/Parker-Hale-Sniper-Rifle-M85.pdf

another M84 up for sale in Germany https ://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=19499620
An M84 (single shot solid bottom action) is probably as close as most people will get to a c3a1 today unless you find an m86 receiver in the US.

PH seem to have built more M84s than any of the other m84/m86/M87 series.

Talking with Gil (the fellow who holds the remaining PH records) the total number of rifles built appears to be about 2000 plus the canadian contract of roughly 550 c3a1's.
Plus the British contract cadet m84 and m84mk2 actions.

This one has the advantage of the correct bolt knob.

I've just acquired a Parker Hale 1200TX. The barrel is marked 1200TX, the serial number is R-39###, the R is underlined. The bolt knob is different from other 1200TX rifles I have seen, it is a half round knob with the flat side on the bottom rather than the top. On the left side of the action, on the tang, it is marked "SPAIN". Would this be a good candidate for a C3 clone?

Currently the last sniper class be conducted in LFWA will be using the C3A1, then once they pass the revert on the new rifles.

R39### is at the top end of the C3 serial number range. It may have been one of the rifles exchanged towards the C3A1s.

The C3 rifles were repaired where necessary and sold to (mostly) British retailers amd distributors.
If the barrel is marked 1200tx, it may have simply been rebarreled- or alternately been originally built as a 1200tx at the same time as the C3s.

Having the bolt knob it does is an arguement that it probably was built as a C3 or M82 (C3 not built for Canada).

Thanks for the info. The full serial is 39712, if that lends it anymore credibility.
