Parker Hale Rifles

Still have a mod 1200 mauser top pic in baribaol's post in 7mm rem mag. tack driver with custom loads, really good with factory loads-----but---- kicks like a mule.. Bought it at sears for $129.95 37 years ago. Had to put a muzzle brake on it to use it as I got older. I will never sell this one, have to pass it on to the kids.

I had a PH 1200 Super Clip in .270 Win. Most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Beautiful rifle and the blueing had a mirror finish. The only thing I didn't like about it was the wood stock dented really easily. Even the tiniest little bump left a dent in the wood. Sold it awhile ago but kept the extra clips I had for it. Now I'm trying to find another one but they are hard to come by.

Thanks Baribal, pictures appreciated.
My 243 was identical to the second picture, but a 30-06 in my safe has a very different stock with sort of a flat, flared forearm, palm swell, very comfortable stock, but nothing like I've seen on other PHs.
It is by far the most accurate '06 I have ever had...

I have 3 1200c models. a 6mm with an octagon barrel with Parker Hale Proof Marks,a3006.and a 240 Weatherby with an octagon barrel (that one we built)

Kevan,
These pages only covers the older models, he others are quite well documented but what I have can be posted here; they're copyrighted.

RR,
Actually, PH did not proof, it was performed by the Birmingham Proofhouse.

Kevan,
Once again, I am posting these catalog pages. Hope this can help you.

The P-H rifles can also be dated by their proofstamps (under the barrel, in front of the receiver). A picture would be much better than a desription.
This picture shows waht to look for;

Very early rifles used FN receivers and later ones used the Santa Barbara.
The Spanish Santa Barbara actions can be identified by the word "Spain" stamped on the left tang side.

What year would the middle ad be from for the Safari Deluxe?

... about 1968, because there is no crossbolt in the stock, wich seems to have started around '69-'70.

About the PH Commercial Mausers....you see a lot of 270, 30-06 , 308's . 308 norma to a lesser extent. On occasion Ive see the odd 22-250 (not sure if it was semi custom). Neat rifles....I had a 270 for a short while .

There are quite a few .300 Win Mag, too, and once in a while you find a 7mm RM. The .308 Norma have my attention.

I want a 22-250...let me know if you see another one again:D

the 25.06 will have to fill the varmit gap for now...

I have that C1303D Custom No.1 in my safe. Its a converted Enfield No.1 Mk. III*. It was given to me by my dad and it will always have sentimental value to me. Hoping to pass it on to my kid (if I ever have one) some day.

I had a .270 in a parker hale, great shooter. just had a slight problem, take a brass that you fired in it, give the brass a half turn and it wouldn't fit back in the chamber. Had to be full length resized all the time.

I know of several 700 Remingtons in 300 Ultra mag with the same problem. :)

I too have owned several PH rifles over the years and until recently almost always hunted with one Parkerhale or another. I find they are very accurate rifles for what their price would reflect. I find their detachable mags were their one drawback however as they could be tempermental with feeding sometimes. The older models seem to have better furniture and a deeper blueing.
I also think some of their models are confusing to figure out. I have had 2 models that were stocked like the first pic posted on here but also had "Safari" stamped on the barrel too. One I still have-Its an early model with commercial bolt in .243 w/detach mag. The other was in 7mm mag w/floorplate which was just sold on here a few weeks ago.

i have a safrai super from 1964. it was a .308 n.m. but had it recambered to .300 win. it has a 22 in. barrel on it. at 100 it will touch 3 holes together with cheap fed. ammo. i love it but it jumps like a mule due to the short barrel.
any factory loads you would recomend for this. for island deer and bear.:)

I`m the proud owner of 2 PH rifles .308 and 25-06. What are your opinions of PH rifles? were they popular back in their day 25-40 years ago?

Make that 3 rifles now. A 25-06 model 1200, .308 safari deluxe, and a .308 that looks like a 1200 but is marked safari. :D

Well for such a short barrel you might not get the full power out of your magnum round; try some Federal or Remington reduced loads.

I have a Trade Ex purchased Parker Hale with the flat fore end and cross bolt in the stock. Commercial FN I think. In any event it is chambered in 6.5X55 and I love it. Very nice grain wood and decent trigger. It has a 24" barrel and I have D and T'd it and installed a Williams FP 98 peep. I would not trade it for most new bolt actions on the market.

regards, Darryl

I believe all the flat fore end PH actions are Santa Barbara's, although someone could have swapped the stock somewhere along the line. - dan
