Will parkerizing my SKS make it better for shooting corrosive ammo with? Anybody try it with theirs?

I'm talking about treating everything 'cept inside the barrel.
It'd be pretty cool to just put the rifle away after shooting late and just clean it mid-week or whenever possible.
 
I think inside the barrel and gas assembly is where the problem lies. I don't think parkerizing will help much. Just clean after shooting, should't have any problems.
 
It is absolutely useless, if you want corrosion resistance inside your gun look at hard chrome platting the barrel and the whole of the gas actuating system.

Besides, it is FAR cheaper to buy a used kettle at a garage sale, and pour BOILING water down the bore and the gas system each time corrosive is used.
 
im a ho####er type of a guy . but will windex do the job , holding off cleaning for a few days later ?
 
I have heard the "just squirt Windex down the bore" before, but I flat out do not trust this method.
And I REALLY doubt that the Windex will get into the gas system by simply squirting it in the bore.
I wonder if the guys promoting it are willing to offer a money back guarantee?:stirthepot2:
 
I've been using windex for years, after 1000s of rounds things look great. I totaly disassemble all, hose down with windex, scrub with toothbrush, hose down with brake cleaner, different toothbrush, patches til clean, oil everything, wipe down, brush teeth.
 
Guess I'll keep stopping for coffee at Tims on the way home from shooting late then...and start getting use to the smell of ammonia. Ha!
 
Ammonia nothing, the brake cleaner cuts down on my beer consumption...:cheers: feeling dizzy... (It's ok, according to the label it's been shown to cause cancer in the state of california, I'm not in california, so...) I can't decide if I like shooting my sks's or if I just have a solvent problem.

Get some brake cleaner, spray down the bore really good. Run a bore snake through, then oil the barrel.

Clean it the next day. That's what I do with my CZ858.
 
If you really want to feel dizzy, like me, start using Ballistol to oil your guns...

Brake cleaner is a very harsh and powerful solvent. It kils anything, including yellowjackets, humans and grease, too.
Brake cleaner will only remove oily and greasy residues and burnt powder remnants.
It WILL NOT dissolve sodium and potassium salts.
However, it will carry away those that are trapped in the aforementioned residues and that's why you have success that way.
I'd use brake cleaner first to dislodge grease and oil then get those salts out with a good boiling water flush; it only takes about 30 seconds and leave metal bare and dry.
Then I'd clean as usual with my favourite stuff (Ed's Red) followed by gun oil.
Never had a speck of rust that way.

I was a longtime windex user.

I tried the boiling water method just tonight and it seemed to work just fine.

Made a device that fits into the chamber, connected to a piece of metal tube, connected to a funnel.

Pour in and done. Swab with a boresnake and leave it. I only really clean barrels with solvent when groups open up anyway.
 
I'll try it. I clean in the garage, door closed (if you know what I mean) and didn't want the water mess. The floor is totaly flat with no drain. The drain is just outside the garage door- dumb design. Swimming pool everytime it snows. Sounds a lot easier than my "ritual".
 
So are you guys saying just spray the bore / barrel with windex and oil it?

What about the gas tube and piston etc?

Do I have to windex / hot water those as well?

Just got my first Russian SKS recently and have yet to shot it so any tips will be very much appreciated!
