Well. we had an interesting time at the Range today. Pavehammer's new (to him) Springfield Armory Milspec Operator went Kaboom. It isn't a pretty sight, and we are going to need a barrel for sure.

He is going to post a few photos shortly. It appears to be an ammo issue - squib round I think. One of his friends was shooting it, and didn't notice the under powered round. Tap rack and go - Kaboom. Barrel is split.

Must get the slide and frame magnafluxed to know for sure.:(
 
What? It happened to something other than a Glock? :eek: Take that Glock haters. Luckily nobody was hurt and it is always a sad day when a fellow CGN'r has a catastrophic failure to their investment. Maybe somebody on the roster has a spare that they can offer at a very reasonable price...

If the story is found to be correct then this type of kB could have happened to any pistol...squib then "Tap rack fire"...Boom

This so far doesnt sound like a over-powered reload, or lack of case protection; as has been surmised with other Glock kB's.

Sounds like bad ammo and shooter inexperience. Pics of the gun and what type of ammo would be good to know.

Hopefully no serious injuries to report of.
 
I'm going to get a couple of pictures up here in a few minutes, but the rundown is that it looks to be a squib round, tap/rack/go and then kaboom. The collision appears to have taken place about half an inch or three quarters of an inch from the muzzle, which blew a section of the barrel downwards, directly into the plunger tube; the crack extended to the muzzle, and shattered the bushing. It was locked up pretty tight, and we ended up ####ing around with a slide stop for a half hour.

If anyone ever tells you that Springfield slide stops are ####, tell them to talk to smgcon and myself. We tried to drill it out to no avail, and ended up using a dremel and a cutting disk to shear it off, allowing us to slip the whole slide assembly off the front.

Your reloads Pavehammer? Is it even legal for a minor to reload without supervision?

Not my reloads. I'm getting in contact with the manufacturor of said reloads.

But here's the picutres. And no one was hurt. Except my feelings. Because it was new, and I loved it, and now I feel like a #### for not just buying an STI Duty One or something for less money than the Milspec Operator w/ all the parts I've bought for it.

yup i'd say she's pooched luckely no one was hurt defintly call whoever loaded those and have a chat with them one reason why you should always double check your loads before seating the bullet LOL again i am glad none was hurt
 
Sorry about the gun but, thankfully, no one got hurt. I had a squib that prevented the next round from chambering, my reloads. :( Really lucky on my part as I didn't catch the soft report and I know I would've touched off the next round had it chambered. :redface:
 
This really drives home the need to pay attention....
In reloading...do ALL the case have the correct amount of powder, and in this case, was it a failure to fire, or a primer only + no/small powder charge.
In the heat of the moment, it's easy to miss the intial squib discharge and then implement the 'solution to the non-firing problem'..tap,rack...BANG!:eek:
Easy to do...(Ahem!..been there, done that)...but a lesson that's hard to forget. Hopefully nobody paid too high a price!

Pistol parts are replaceable... your eyesight and your well being is not.

Thankfully you are still allright. The last thing we don't need is a lost CGNutter.
 
well big bummer man but its happened to the best of us, itsthe bown side to reloading, but it has and does happen to factory loads.
least everyone is ok.
now you have a project gun :)
