Trying to decide what direction I want to go with my PCC optic (FX9).

I have a few red dots (TRS-25 / Holosun 508 etc etc) which I plan to try to see if any feel "right" but as this will be competition / gamer rig I want something quite open with a good field of view and easy to pick up dot. Ideally the dot would be a fine centre dot for precision where required and some sort of larger out ring for speed on the closer stuff (the only optics on my list with this type of reticle are the Holosuns)

I have looked around and narrowed it down to the following (note: I prefer green dots over red but either will work):

1) Holosun 510C.

This is an open reflex type sight and as such should offer easy viewing / good field of view. It has the multi reticle system (fine point which is useful for when accuracy is required at distance and larger 32MOA outer ring for fast / easy pickup on closer targets - best of both worlds). I dont like my optics crazy high so this looks about right for me. Price seems decent and it is offered with a green reticle. Ticks a lot of boxes. Only downsides I can find are that as an open reflex type it may struggle in wet rainy conditions and right now they aint in stock anywhere.

2) Trijicon MRO.

Closed emitter type red dot so no issues with rain etc. Probably one of the best or the best field of view for this style of optic. Available with green dot. Downsides - its pricy, its only available with a 2MOA red dot which is fine for precision at distance but may be slower to pick up than some other offerings at the closer distances where the bulk of the targets are.

3) SIG Romeo MAX XL with 6MOA dot & Scalarworks mount.

This is an open reflex type optic so would suffer from the same weaknesses as the Holosun (ie rain may be an issue). Field of view is MASSIVE so combined with the 6MOA dot should be easy to pick up / get on target for the closer stuff. Downsides are its pricy (particularly with a separate mount) / hard to find / only offered with a red dot and the 6MOA may be on the large side for any sort of precision at distance (I know a PCC wont be reaching out to crazy distances but I have never tried a dot this big so dont know what that would look like).

4) Holosun HS512C

This is basically the same optic as the 510C except it is closed so no issues with moisture. Downsides are no green reticle option (boo!) and being closed it will probably be a little slower to pick up than the open type 510C.

Thoughts? I am open to suggestions for any good options I have overlooked.

I put a 2moa Sig Sauer Romeo5 on mine with the low mount.

Works great, love the shake awake feature.

This is it. The Sig Romeo5 is on my rifle for good.

It has a great field of view, and the shake awake feature is perfect.

After about 5 sights of various types and makes on top the final red dot is there now!

I have a Trijicon Reflex sight with ARMS throw lever mount that gets moved around to a few different rifles. works great no batteries or cold to worry about.

What others did you try out of curiosity?

I assume that you are referring to this?

I can find lots of the taller version in Canada but not this, can this be purchased like the picture or do you have to buy the taller version and a separate lower riser?

Did you go with the low mount due to ergonomics or to reduce height over bore (or both)?

Is the 2 MOA dot big enough to pick up on quickly?

The Romeo 5 is a great red dot...I have it on multiple rifles and carbines...holds zero well, shake awake is great, and interval for auto shut off is short (therefore improving battery life) - think it's like 2 or 5 min. Tremendous value. Only thing I don't like about it is the flimsy rubber covers, which seem to fall off by themselves a lot in my range bag.

That said on my FX9, I have a Holosun HS515GM with the clear flip covers (that I never need to flip, since I can see right through it - I believe they are even glass, not plastic). I did remove the killflash honeycomb thing (I still don't get the purpose of it anyway since I use it outside during the day at my club). That also has shake awake - the interval for auto shut off is slightly more - if memory serves, about 10 min (and not as ridiculous as the 12 hour Vortex one). I also have the CM version on another gun which has the solar backup, which I can't see myself ever needing...

Yes, that's the exact dot & 2moa is great with no issues picking it up.

NorthPro has them on sale with BOTH the low & high mounts.
-- Includes a M1913 Picatinny low mount riser and a co-witness 1.41” riser mount

Is that what you run?

On paper it ticks a lot of boxes. I had read about the open emitter type having issues in wet conditions but after some more digging this may not be as a big of an issue as I first thought.

And unless I am forced to shoot in the rain at a match I wont be shooting in the rain :)

I was lucky enough to swap parts from an AR platform and borrow some optics from fellow gun club members:

Crosman CentrePoint - cheap, hard to zero.

EoTech XPS 2 - a great sight picture but bulky, and no battery auto shut off feature. The huge MOA ring was great for very fast shooting at steel plates.

RioRand Open reflex sight - cheap, but not terrible.

Bushnell TRS-25 3 MOA - not pricey but not many features. The poor durability reviews stopped me from buying this one. The one that I borrowed fro a range day crapped out shortly after.

Vortex Venom 3 MOA - the dot was fine for pistol use but too small for the smaller rifle targets a bit further out.

Vortex Venom 6 MOA - a great optic. No shake awake and it looked 'flimsy' on top of the rifle. I could never find a 'cage' to protect it.

Bushnell AR 3-12 x 40 - this was from a MapleSeed build. It was great fro deliberate shooting out to 9mm ranges, but no good for the steel plate shooting the gun gets used for most often.

I had a Holosun 503 on my PCC but recently switched to a Primary Arms 3X micro red dot. I enjoyed shooting it so much that I put another another one on my 22 cal. My eyes are not what they use to be.

Your endorsement is enough for me to look at getting one of these. I forgot to mention my Fx9 also has a Holosun H3Mx magnifier on it and while I can flip it to the side when not needed, it does add some additional weight and I suspect the clarity is not the same as it would be if I had an integrated magnified optic.

I am gonna check out one of these things based on your recommendation.

It’s what I run and many others I shoot with, never had anyone complain about malfunctions including while using in the rain.
