Recently I've been looking at the nea pdw I was wondering if that's a good ar 15 to get into for a pdw I've never owned a ar 15 before and I really like the pdw idea I would be able to build one from parts but I wouldn't know the cost and what parts to use. I see theres a couple other companies that make pdws im just trying to gather some ideas. Im not looking to spend 3000 bucks but im looking for fun and reliability. Any help on this would be great cause im a total noob with ar 15s.

Nothing wrong with nea15 ar
But expect to upgrade some parts for reliability

You will Need h2 buffer
Stake your gas key
Upgrade extractor
Linaer comp
Better Lpk

Total 400 bucks

You will learn a great deal going this route
Good luck and enjoy

What are these like I said noob here don't know lots of the terms im use to bolt action rifles and some semi 22lr but never really been up and up on parts :(

Spend half a day on Youtube and watch all the AR15 build videos you can find, you will be able to built an AR in your sleep at the end.

Im just wondering what will be more cost effective? Also if im doing a build what companies make good parts I don't know the quality of any brands when it comes to ar 15 platform. Im not going to pretend I know anything cause I don't lol. Like I said im going for a functional build with cost in mind. But I want something that I will be happy with and not turn around and sell because its a nightmare.

Always go with buying a complete rifle shoot it for at least a couple of times so you know what you like or don't like, before you start changing thing.

Putting an AR together with aftermarket parts might seem like a good idea because you will end up with a rifle exactly the way you want, however unless you know how all the different parts feels you will ended up swapping out parts until you get it right, if you think swapping out standard AR parts is expansive just wait until you start swapping out aftermarket parts. Just take a look on the Equipment Exchange section there are lot of stuff on there that people put it on their rifle than take it right off without ever firing a round or you see very expansive custom rifles with less than a box of ammo down the barrel for sale.

Sorry to piggy back OP, but does anyone know if this upper will run reliably on any lower? Would I have to change the buffer or recoil spring? I've been wanting PDW for a while and this is a good price but I just want a drop-in solution.

I'd fire it as is at first and see how it runs...but you may have to change to a heavier buffer if cycling too quick. I run an H3 in my 7.5 (custom built).

Thanks for the reply. How do you know if it's cycling too quickly?

FTE/FTF...the next round will be trying to force in while the first is still trying to get out. Looks somewhat like a double-feed...(I'm simplifying the explanation but you get the idea). An extractor upgrade can also help...

You will find that most AR PDW's are not cheap and dealers don't normally bring them in as regular inventory, with the exception of NEA, but there are a lot of mixed feelings about NEA's quality control. keep a close eye on the Equipment Exchange for PDW's or at least 7" uppers they do pop up on a regular basis, something about the novelty of it wears out rather quickly.

Myself i like compact firearms since i can remeber i figure if im getting an ar15 which is gonna be restricted might as well be something that deserves the title. I do fancy those sharp bros lowers though.
