I run suppressed DI guns as short as 6.5" and they work just fine. The can actually improves reliability because it increases the backpressure.
First, you are saying that some muzzle devices don't increase back pressure.
Next, you are saying that a can (suppressor) increases back pressure.
Make up your mind. How much difference is there between a can and some muzzle devices, such as a Noveske KX3 or the Dlask version. (noise differences aside) They are both a contained area at the end of the barrel. Obviously the can is usually larger, but if a can increases back pressure it seems very plain to me that a KX3 could do the same albeit maybe not to the same extent.
A device like the KX3 can redirect a portion of the gasses, a supressor by design, not only redirects ALL of the gasses, but causes the gasses to cool, by absorbing the heat from the gasses (that's why Chor Boy copper scrubbers are now considered to be silencer parts - they're used to absorb heat) in cooling the gasses become more dense, giving more pressure.
