PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

(quoted by Suputin from another thread)
I run suppressed DI guns as short as 6.5" and they work just fine. The can actually improves reliability because it increases the backpressure.

First, you are saying that some muzzle devices don't increase back pressure.
Next, you are saying that a can (suppressor) increases back pressure.
Make up your mind. How much difference is there between a can and some muzzle devices, such as a Noveske KX3 or the Dlask version. (noise differences aside) They are both a contained area at the end of the barrel. Obviously the can is usually larger, but if a can increases back pressure it seems very plain to me that a KX3 could do the same albeit maybe not to the same extent.

A device like the KX3 can redirect a portion of the gasses, a supressor by design, not only redirects ALL of the gasses, but causes the gasses to cool, by absorbing the heat from the gasses (that's why Chor Boy copper scrubbers are now considered to be silencer parts - they're used to absorb heat) in cooling the gasses become more dense, giving more pressure.

8ball is correct, I was imprecise with my wording.

Anytime gas expands into a space, pressure must drop. Not even I can violate the gas laws. :)

What a suppressor does is massively increase the dwell time of the pressure event. Think of it like running a carbine length gas system on a rifle length barrel. The extra time the gas has to act on the system results in very positive functioning. It also causes a lot of crap to be blown into the receiver

FWIW sound suppressors work in a number of different ways. Heat exchange is only one of those.

The thread is Titled 'Builds'.....

adn you didn't jump on the guys with ps90's? besides are you the king of the dictionary and decide what is a build or not? that gun had some mods done to it and some parts added. No i doubt he CHF his barrel in his garage tho!

HAHA!

That thing is purdy! :)

It's too bad this thread is only for black rifles. SBR VZ58's, 12"s and 7.5"s, make excellent PDW's. The 7.62 x39 round loses much less velocity than most other rifle calibers when using short barrels.

Just thought i'd share.

Your 300 Whisper is purdier. Looking forward to seeing what NEA is coming out with in the future. If it looks like your current build, sign me up!

I am interested to see what they have come up with as well. They keep telling me they have improved it but honestly how do you improve upon perfection? :)

I am really liking the shorties these days. I have an 11.5" that I never shoot. Even the PDW Whisper gets the nod more often than its 10" cousin. The little guns with big HP are just more fun.

Now if I can figure out the 6x38 PDW round I have been working on, that will be a nice combination of ballistics in a small package.
