PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

Damn, so that's what's wrong with my Aimpoints!
Blaxsun that is one sweet PDW. :)

Haha. Don't tell that to CAA (you may recall that infamous photo of their Glock RONI kit with the Aimpoint Micro)... Thanks - I think it's near perfect atm (until I go messing around with it again, that is...) ;)

PDW is personal defense weapon isn't it?

Yes, and it's typically 9" or less. 10.5"-12.5" is QCB, 14.5" is carbine, 16" or more rifle... Examples include: FN PS90, HK MP7, KAC PDW, Magpul PDR.

"A personal defense weapon (PDW) is a compact semi-automatic or fully automatic firearm similar in most respects to a submachine gun, but firing a (often proprietary) rifle round, giving a PDW better range, accuracy and armor-penetrating capability than submachine guns, which fire pistol-caliber cartridges."

But since we're mainly dealing with ARs in this thread, we're referencing short builds under 10" in calibers like 5.56mm, 7.62x39, 6.8SPC and 300BLK.

Ahh, see I'd think of my rifle as a pdw, cause its my personal weapon, and I'd use it for defense.

Not a bad write up. A buddy of mine is right along side me about half-way through his 300 Blk build(opposite from my 5.56mm). To show me how easy it is to do the brass conversion, within less than a couple mins from 5.56/.223 to a cut, de-burred, reamed, primed and live 300 Blk rnd. Only thing slowing him down was swapping out the different dies on the single stage as his progressive was unavail at the time.

Aside from the fact it was designed to run sub-sonic & suppressed the round does have alot going for it overall. I'm also hearing/reading the Cal really shines in the PDW format w/out a suppressor to boot.

Very good article. The one thing that everyone keeps glossing over with 300BLK though, is that unless you reload - it's 3-4x as expensive as .223 or 5.56mm - and commercial ammo is next to impossible to find.

That being said, I really like the fact that it uses the same bolt and magazines. If we could run suppressors I think this would be a no-brainer. I'll be following the Tavor and ACR 300BLK efforts with keen interest.

IWI Tavor C.T.A.R

This is my updated Tavor CTAR. A little on the heavier side than most PDWs,
but on the other hand - it does sport a 14.5" barrel in its compact 25.2" frame.
Upgrades include: AAC Blackout 18T flash hider, Dlask low profile rail, EOTech 516 HWS (poor man's MARS)
Urban-ERT 2-point sling with quick detach, Tritium front post upgrade, Dual Magpul PMAGs with MagLink

Okay I finally have to add to this thread:

300 Blackout

- ATRS 7.5" SS heavy barrel machined out of Rock Creek blank and custom Eliminator flash hider. Just finished it last night so haven't taken it out yet but I notice it is a little front heavy. It sure is tiny though! And I love that ACE SOCOM stock! Not sure whether I want to run the Aimpoint or CMORE aluminum tactical sight...

And while I was snapping photos I took one of my 5.56mm 7.5" HERA PDW and my 5.56mm 7.5" mix-n-match PDW that I just posted in the EE

I'm partial to the 300 Blackout on top - 6lb 5oz

The Hera has a 7.5" Rainier Arms heavy barrel and weighs a whopping 7lb even

The Aero Precision with a NEA pistol barrel is a scant 6lb 2oz with the sights mounted
