Well after toying with stuff for about 11 months....the FINAL configuration. I had to throw a BCM Mod. 0 brake on as the Warthog was over pressuring the gas block and finally for the modular fore grip I wanted.
AAAAaaaaand the muzzle blast released as God intended...my friend wanted to try this on her first range visit she has a 20 picture burst setting on her phone and that is how this pic came to be. (it was in the old Diopter sight configuration)

Shot my new flash enhancer brake today on a 6" PDW. I was seriously concerned about setting myself on fire.

My first AR build. 7.5" NEA barrel, S&J Hardware 1.5" NLC-1 comp, Vortex Sparc, Raptor charging handle, burnt bronze cerakote by Select Shooting Supplies. Overall length with the stock collapsed is 20.5". Test drive scheduled for tomorrow

Woah! That burnt bronze really rocks! Looks amazing. How comfy is that to shoot without a good cheek weld? Do you need a riser for your optics? Looking forward to the range report.

Haven't shot it yet, just finished the assembly last night. I have a riser for the optic but thought I would try it low first and see. Regardless, I'm 6'1" so "comfy" and this build won't be found in the same sentence unless I talk about slinging it
. At my height, the CCS is terribly impractical, even at full extension...but then again, this thread isn't exactly full of practical firearms

Test drive was today and what a gorgeous day it was to be out on the range!
I wanted to see how she cycled with different ammo so I brought out some AE black box, some Norinco, and some handloads (24.6gn varget iirc)
150 rounds later, only two hiccups - first was the very first round, bolt didn't go into battery. Second was one instance where the bolt didn't hold open on the last shot. Otherwise flawless.
I love the S&J comp, nice big fireball as seen on this screen grab
Even fully extended the stock is too short for me and it felt awkward initially. I let a few others shoot it and everyone seemed to find it a bit odd to shoulder, especially with the Sparc being mounted so low. But surprisingly, after a hundred rounds or so, it suddenly felt easy to point and reasonably comfortable; I wasn't expecting that.
The Cerakote held up well. A bit of scuffing on the stock from the charging handle and a few minor blemishes on the deflector from the brass but nothing unexpected. I know assembling an AR from scratch isn't exactly rocket science but I must say it is a good feeling when you do so and everything works the way it is supposed to!

Thanks for the review. Just ordered the same NLC-1 comp for my NEA 7.5' build.
This is my first short AR. It's a Troy Northern Guard 10.5". I swapped out the stock and grip for Magpul plastics and changed the Claymore for a Smith Vortex. I'm just waiting for a Geissle trigger as the stock one is poor. The fit and finish is better than my old Armalite. I'll give it a proper workout when the trigger arrives.
