PE-90 Black Special Target

Although it's not a light rifle, I find that it handles really well. The handguards etc are a good fit, and make the rifle feel smaller than it looks.

I grabbed a photo of the test target that came with my rifle. It's a 10 shot group at 300 metres = 328 yards.

69gr smk sometimes works with the stock 1:10 twist barrel. Try varget powder. If you want to go heavier you will need to rebarrel to a tighter twist.

Shot my blackspecial yesterday morning. What a rifle!!!
The ruag ammo shoots very nicely in this rifle. My iron sight abilities werent as good at 200m as the rifle is capable, but with practice im sure it will get better. Cant wait to see how far back I can go with this rifle, but Ill need some glass on it first.

That Ruag ammo is pretty expensive.
I was considering it but I think I'll just try to find a good target .223 round if I can find one cheaper than the Ruag.

I'll try it out for sure. I'll try a small batch before comitting to a large amount. If the Ruag ammo is bested by .223 target ammo for accuracy then that's the way I'll go. If not I'll go with the Ruag.

It would be nice if someone who's tried out various ammo in their PE-90 would post a range report.

By the way I watched the latest "Bourne" movie yesterday. I just happened to notice that the rifle used by the "asset" was in fact a Swiss Arms/Sig. It looked like a slightly modified CQB with black instead of green. Or a Black special with a shorter barrel and different hand guards.
Anyways just something that was interesting to see.

Federal sierra matchking, I tried the 69 and 77 grain versions, 300yrds 5rnd group the size of a quarter. The 77 was a little tighter than the 69gr, but this was in the sniper version of the rifle.

Hmmm not sure.
It would make sense that there may be a "sniper" or DM version out there with a heavy barrel.

The target model has flip up iron sights instead of the regular fixed.

the target version is a standard PE-90 without irons while the sniper has a different barrel does it not?

I believe the Sniper model has a 24" 1:7 twist barrel (among a host of other additions).
The standard iron sighted and flat-topped PE-90s are 20.8" (incl. flashhider) 1:10 twist.

The 69s will (mostly - your milage may, and likely will, vary) stabalise in the 1:10, the 77s will not.

The Ruag is decent ammo, and certainly worthy of 'match grade' status...but you can load for less money and get better ammunition...the cost of a 1000 rounds would go a long way towards a handloading set up, and the components.

There has been TONS of info posted on the board about firing different ammo and loading for these...You just need to search it out-and I guess differentiate posts where guys are taking WAGs and those that post replys based on personal knowledge....;)

There are (at least) 3 non restricted. regular with irons, target with the flat top and flip ups, and sniper which has adjustable everything, and a 25.6 inch heavy 1:10 barrel. I have owned the regular, and sniper at various times. Like anything, they have their ups and downs.

With the Sniper variant I hear that the "ups" are mostly in price! I think the last one I saw for sale was $11,000 and it lasted about 5 days.
