Pellet pistol for grouse.

Go to Crappy Tire and buy a Crosman 2240. It's less than 100 bucks and you'll thank yourself the next time you harvest a grouse while out deer hunting. I keep mine in an inside pocket in my jacket so the CO2 is not an issue. I also carry it with a pellet in the chamber, the action NOT cocked and the safety one. From that condition it's quick and quiet to get into action and safe to carry all day.

If the pistol velocity is below 500 fps it is not a firearm, but the COs consider it a weapon for the purpose of hunting so you can not carry two weapons loaded one must be in a case. Having said this my favorite second gun is a .22 bolt with CCI CB long ammo - no noise and about 750 fps. Deadly on grouse etc

I am not sure that is correct, why would one have to be in a case?

When out hunting I always carry some shot loads for my 45/70 or 50/90, i always use the same brass as for heavy loads. I load them by hand and they are as effective as the .410 or in the case of the .50, more effective.

Just curious, do you use a shotcup or just a wad between the powder and shot when loading for the 45 or 50 and what do you use between the end of the case and the shot? I've shot lots of bp shotgun but never loaded for brass cartridges. What types of patterns do you get and do you have lead deposit issues on the riflings?

Not sure nor do I care how legal it is  but a good buddy of mine carries a Webley Tempest .177 pellet pistol while deer hunting and routinely snaps grouse in the head with it?It's kinda "high-end" or pricey as pellet guns go.....around $300 I beleive...but it prints dime-size groups @25 yrds?

I love mine!

How about using a small crossbow, I've seen some pistol types for sale at military surplus store last summer. I'm not sure of the legal aspects though. Would certainly be quiet and deadly on Grouse.

nope pleny of stuff you could hunt with an air rifle. Everything in the book where it says caliber=any in fact

The regulations are very clear in quebec, if you look a little to the left in the regulations they talk clearly about any CENTERFIRE or any RIMFIRE.
Airguns do not fall into ANY catagory

these are the regs read the 9th down after it says It is prohibited :
Can't be clearer

They are prohibited, this is from the Federal firearms legislation for hunters

It is prohibited to be in possession of a crossbow designed or modified to enable discharge using a single hand or a crossbow of a total length of less than 500 mm. Such a crossbow is considered a prohibited weapon.

Well, that sucks. Not too surprised though.
