People Asking Me To Sell Them Components

i'm not running out of componants any time soon and i refuse to share with most people. i have a hunting buddy i would help out as he would do the same with me. others too lazy to look for what they need no. supply is short but i keep finding supplies and will continue to stock up. its not hoarding because i will shoot it all some day.

I'm out or close to out of all the powders I use and just picked up a pound of powder that was really a third choice for my application. I'm a young guy that only recently got into reloading so I didn't know to stock up, I didn't know the supplies would dwindle at all, let alone for this long. That said, I have a good friend who has reloaded for years who I know for fact has over 8 pounds of my primary choice of powder, but I never have and never will ask for him to part with any of it. I'm not sure where all these people you guys are talking about got the idea that you HAD to share with them. I would be embarrassed to even ask for components, let alone demand them.

I have 4or5 times more reloading stuff on my shelf than the average small sporting goods store. Unfortunately this is not saying that much as the average store has next to nothing. Still I have a life time supply of components if only used for hunting and not recreational shooting. Still not satisfied with this so I continue to build up my stocks of components.

Yup I really like the guys that want to buy a half pound of powder and part box of bullets. I tell them to shop around at the next gun show.

Or, how about the fellow that figures you bought the stuff five years ago and wants a discount on the price on the can or box. Won't even consider the taxes and shipping costs.

I have a very few FRIENDS that I will loan, give or trade components with. That's it. No exceptions.

I made a big mistake with a newbie reloader a few years ago. He was desperate to have someone show him the ropes and had a big line about how he was going to be getting a reloading kit from WSS. He was waiting until the end of the month for his pay.

Well, that clown never did get his kit. He came here a half dozen times to use my stuff, including components, which I will admit he paid full price for without a qualm, but then started to bring over a couple of buds. It got obvious pretty quickly what was going on. I told him to hurry up and get his kit from WSS that he had talked about several months previously and not to bring an entourage with him again.

Haven't seen him since but it turns out I was the third known person in the area he pulled the stunt with and that he has moved on to another poor sap a few kliks out of town. I know that fellow. He won't last as long there as he did with me.

When it comes to ammo and components, reloaders need to face some cold hard facts pretty quickly. You snooze, you lose. You schmooze and you lose even more.

I have a really good stock of components on hand.
That being said..................I won't give or sell my stuff. If I happen to sell a rifle, I will include a box of handloaded ammo with it. If the buyer likes the performance, they are welcome to buy the components and I'll walk them through the loading process (if they're not a reloader). I have no problem allowing the use of my press and dies.

I sold a Ruger 7x57 RSI to a good friend last spring. It's his go-to rifle now. He shot his moose with my reload this fall. I fully expect him to be here one of these days to make more ammo. No problem as long as he picks up the primers, powder and bullets and brings them along.
My son has my Parker-Hale 30-06 (on loan) right now. He got 2 boxes of ammo with the rifle. If he needs more, I'm sure that I'll make an exception to the rule and make more ammo for him. He shot his first deer ever with the rifle this fall.

If someone is desperately in need of something and I've got some extra, I don't mind sharing. I've had a few guys extend me the same courtesy. What goes around comes around I guess.

Ding ding ding! We have an adult here!

You probably buy the first round at the pub too!

Respect!

In my present social circle I am the only reloader. I say nothing as to what I have or don't have, so I never get asked for anything. I mind my own business and take care of my needs whatever that maybe. I expect other folks to do the same. When Obama got re elected I made sure my needs were met, and advised others to perhaps buy an extra box of shells just to make sure they had enough, none of them did, their problem.
The folks at the farm up the road are having a tough time financially this winter, money for fuel oil is tight, they don't have wood on their property and I have more than I know what to do with, so I am supplying them with firewood when they need it, and they are not abusing the handout by showing up every second day, in fact they have taken far less than I expected. So I am willing to help folks out when it is genuinely needed. If a fella needed ammo to take game to feed his family I would gladly donate some ammo for the cause, but just to target practice no.
