"Person shaped" Silhouette targets - Illegal?

Many years ago, my range had changed the policy of shooting human targets. I discovered this while shooting zombie targets. I was told

Range officer: the CFO says we can't shoot human targets anymore.
Me: it's not human, it's paper

Range officer: but it looks human
Me: it's a zombie (it was a bin laden zombie)

Range officer: but it looks like somebody and it could offend that person or others
Me: what if I shoot targets that are enlarged pictures of myself?

Range officer: ...
Me: that's what I thought. Dumb rule.

I have since left that range due to dumb rules.

Yessum...I hear ya.

I just became a member of Burlington Rifle & Revolver Club / Range Burlington. During the orientation, we were told no zombie targets.

It always amazes me at how many people want to kill someone,

It amazes me even more how everyone thinks that to become a LEO they need to practice first.
I would suggest that in the very first day of Firearms Training the candidate will be told to forget everything they where either ever told about firearms or what they know about firearms and then the training will start from there.
As for killing someone ..the object is to stop the threat...not kill them, n'est-ce pas.

That is fantastic. Seeing that conversation first hand would have made my day.

Every range I have been to always have the no human rule. It makes no sense. Shooting human targets does not assist you in mass shootings or whatever reason they come up with. Its just ink and paper. The fact that we have to use a zombie loop hole is ridiculous.

I feel you on the dumb ranges rules. I shoot crown land because of dumb rules. The main ones being:

- no human targets. as mentioned its just stupid
- no more than 1 round per 3 seconds or whatever. My Enfield can shoot faster than that. Dumb rule if the person can handle it
- no steel core ammo for outdoor ranges.
- can't touch anything but yourself when the range is active

I don't know why ranges try to ruin things

I have seen the charred remains of a grass fire from steel core at my range, this is a rule I can get behind during the dry summer months.

The original purpose for having a "Head" on an IPSC and then the IDPA targets, was to shrink an area to test the
competitor's ability in hitting a smaller mark? As in one shot in the B zone. Both of these sports have time as a major factor in scoring, so rush, and miss, not so good.

If anyone complained, hang the target upside down. There - it's headless. What's the small target centred underneath? Let them guess :)

At my local fish and game rifle range I got a "pfft" once for using the standard hostage type one. But other than that, no issues so far and they are sold everywhere.

I had a few ranges say no to any sort of human form including zombies, clowns, mutants, etc. only 'bullseye' style targets allowed. Gets boring very quick.

My range doesn't allow human silhouettes or even B25s.

I put up a 3x3 grid of letter sized portrait oriented targets with a 10th letter sized target on the top center of the 3x3 matrix.

I then shoot the COM target and the top "head" target.

Hahaha Whatever Gun Club says no to any kind of paper targets, I would drive 50 miles in a blizzard to avoid giving them any money and make sure they knew why.
Why the hell not? It's a ####ing piece of paper with ink on it!

Just more proof that fellow gun owners really are our own worst enemy.
Talk about superstitious kowtowing of the masters eh, good God.
It's either that or they just want to tell you "NO" to any targets you bring in so they can charge you $5 for a piece of "official approved, no sand in the ######, Fudd Gun Club" target papers. Maybe both? Unbelievable.
Makes me appreciate my low key, zero politics, club more and more every day. I'm not even mentioning the name on here because judging by some of the comments from my "fellow gun owners" on this thread alone, I can imagine it wouldn't be long before some twit got them banned at our club too....

The CFP has forbidden CAPS from training individuals with live firearms and their CAPS simulator (in Canada); they've been forced to resort to using laser guns instead. In Canada, only governmental and corporate customers can be trained with live firearms and the CAPS system. If an individual wants to use his own gun in a CAPS-simulator course, he or she will have to take a CAPS class down in New Hampshire, at the Sig Academy. (The next course down there is on September 27th, 2017.)

You will notice a difference in IPSC targets between the US and Canada, the Canadian (and many European) have no B zone or head. IDPA targets have so far avoided the angst and continue to have a head...

The iDPA rulebook specifically permits modification of the 'IDPA' target to meet local restrictions, and I've seen a headless 'IDPA' target in photos from some European match from some European country (although I don't recall which).

Port Coquitlam. That is on the public range. Rules are different on the lower ranges. It's a good club. Too busy for me but good otherwise.

Didn't they try to introduce a few more rules not long ago, but failed?

One of them was a maximum of one round per minute or something like that. I found that to be a bit fuddy, but yeah, the lower ranges I hear are good and you sort of govern yourself.

Not illegal but the loony left has decided that it as almost as bad as shooting a real person.

Political signs are also a soft spot, even though the are perfect for holding targets because of their rigidity.

Unlike the politicians being promoted by them...

Most political signs are like political arguments, best disposed of after being shot full of holes.

I'm here all week, tip your waitress.
