Hey guys,

I have seen a lot of surplus 7.62 x 39 out there, from a lot of a different places.

Polish Mesko
Czech S&B
PRC Government
Russian
etc.

I was wondering what you surplus shooters choice was amongst these ammo types, and why.

Thanks,
Roostre

Corrosive is not garbage! Don't be scared of corrosive ammo, it just needs an extra step to be taken when cleaning the gun. I have had great results with S&B surp and have some brass cased Romanian from Lebaron's that I am going to try in my XCR. Some people don't like to have to clean their guns after shooting corrosive but for me I don't mind it and you usually can't beat the price of corrosive. I'd say buy what you want to try and have fun!

They're all good. Just clean your rifle properly when you're done shooting.

Interesting comment, strange that some of the largest militaries in the world felt that this ammunition was good enough for their troops.

Obviously you have tremendous experience in this field, what has led you to this conclusion ?. Thereason that I ask is because we are by far the largest importer of this ammunition into Canada and the majority of our customers seem happy, whta have you discovered that we overlooked ?

Or perhaps unlike most common mortals you have an unlimited budget and can afford all the NC ammo you want to shoot.

well i guess i shouldnt of said it was garbage, but if i dont have to shoot it i wont. i buy maybe 100 to 200 rounds of C a year. the rest is NC. it not only the corrosive effect it the steel cased perjectiles. non corrosive is usually softer bi metals which is easier on the bore of the rifle. i will admit i do shoot some corrosive stuff out of my sks but any thing over 400 buck i prefer not to shoot it.

The corrosive stuff is very good ammo. It is all I use for practice. If I am hiking somewhere and taking the 858 along, then I will pack non corrosive. For hunting strictly non corrosive. It would be nice to be able to afford to shoot non corrosive all the time, but most of us could never shoot the numbers we do if we use strictly non corrosive.

Well the Chinese stuff is good because it is non corrosive but it is also quite a bit more expensive.

I like the Czech stuff but it is harder to find and more expensive these days. I think the best bang for your buck is the Tradeex stuff, $269 for 1440 rounds with free shipping, unless you can find it cheap locally.

Sounds like you don't shoot that much.

I've got over 1k of Czech ball through my XCR in the last 6 weeks. The price difference more than makes up for the extra cleaning. I've put well over 10,000 rounds of the Czech surplus through non-chrome 858s, chrome lined CSAs, and now my XCR. None of them have suffered any ill-effects.

These guns are made to shoot corrosive ammo, regardless of what the "Clean Princesses" say about it.

The truth is to buy what you can when it is available, at its best price. Even the Non-corrosive fairies will by corrosive ammo when there is no more high class/ new made ammo.

1000 rounds in 6 weeks? what do you shoot at, paper targets? you must be some shot if your shooting that much ammo. i dont shoot much semi autos but a have a buch of bolt guns. i like to make my shots count and not shoot rapidly.

Presuming you don't own any handguns (cough, fudd, cough)....I shot 1200 rounds yesterday....

What does what I shoot at, or why I shoot, have to do with anything? Why would you assume that you're the only one making your shots count?

And I said I shot 1k of 7.62x39 through my XCR in 6 weeks. That doesn't include the 9mm, .223, or 12ga. I went through in the same time period.

I shoot enough surplus ammo to have an informed opinion on the subject, do you?

im just curious what you are using for targets? if you go though thousands of rounds you must go through hundereds of tagets?

I didn't realize you shoot so little nowadays, your round count is down a bit. LOL Most people have a blank look on their face when you tell them that you buy 9mm by 10,000 round lots.

LOL. I wish I could by 9mm in those amounts, but I know exactly what you mean.
