The Petawawa Gun Club is a shooting club which is operated through PSP (Personal Support Programs). The Club allows members, both military and civilian, to shoot on multiple outdoor ranges for rifle and pistol/shotguns located on Garrison Petawawa’s training grounds. Shooting clinics and competitions are offered periodically through The Club and such events have been very successful in the past.

This year we are proud to announce that we will be continuing the Sharpshooter Competition as an annual event. This is a friendly competition for shooters of all skill levels. There will be prizes for winners of the matches. The competition has been designed by club member and precision shooter, Jamie Dent. This will mark the second year for The Club to have a dedicated precision competition. The goal is to encourage shooters of all skill levels to come out and experience precision shooting matches as well as to increase interest in shooting sports overall.

The competition will be a two day event consisting of various matches. All match winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded for all matches on the second day. The specific timings and schedules will be forwarded well in advance of the competition.

The competition will occur at, Garrison Petawawa on September 26th and 27th , 2015. We plan to run the competition rain or shine but should any unforeseen circumstances make this impossible, a back-up date may be scheduled. Participants will be notified well in advance if this occurs.

Due to the fact that we are operating the competition on the base range, there are restrictions on what calibres are allowed to be used. Only 303,.223/5.56, 7.62x39 7.62x54R and .308, rifles may be entered into this competition.

The competition will consist of several unique matches, details will be delivered to all participants via email prior to the competition. This year the competition will NOT be broken into two classes. Competitors will all be competing in the same matches against each other.

Shooters are required to bring their own rifle, ammunition required for the matches in which they wish to compete as well as proper eye and ear protection. It is also highly recommended to bring a day bag to carry ammo and equipment throughout the day as well as a bag or container to collect empty casings. Other personal equipment that shooters wish to bring such as shooting mats are allowed however some matches do have kit restrictions.

It is strongly recommended that competitors have acquired their rifle D.O.P.E before the day of the competition. The weekend before the competition we will host an open range day to allow shooters to acquire this information and become acquainted with the range.

Registering for the competition does not require the competitor to participate in every match. Competitors may select which individual matches they wish to compete in, however, the registration fee will remain the same. The registration fee for the competition will be $40 per entrant. Registration and payment is required in advance and spaces will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.

Match details, along with a timetable for the day, how to get to the range, as well as links for local hotels and restaurants will be forwarded to all participants well in advance of the competition. For any further information or to register, please contact us at:

I had a blast at last year's, can't wait for this one.

I'm not feeling confident about repeating the win on the falling plates this year though.Gonna have to run that bolt extra fast to beat the semi-autos! Haha, definitely up for the challenge.

Going to have to see if I can convince the boss to let me work from the Ottawa office for a week so that I can make it up to the sight in the weekend before! Not many options to practice since moving to Windsor this spring.

I can't wait, but running a bolt gun against a semi in the "race" event, that'll be a challenge.

The course of fire has neutered the semis for the "race" stage, they may even be disadvantaged with requiring single loading or loading a mag on the clock.

I have attached the C.O.F. If this is not OK Jamie let me know and I will take it down right away.

*please check page 2 for official COF*

Looking forward to this match!

Can you confirm we are on Y-Rge, and that it is measured in Yards? Im down in kingston shooting some ORA practices (in yds), and want to make sure I'm getting good data for the competition.

***Update, For all the registered shooters I'd just like to let you know that Match Details will be sent out to you by the end of the week. If you have any questions with regards to the matches after reading. Please feel free to send me an email and I'll ensure you understand. For every 1 person that asks a question. 4 others were probably just as confused so don't be shy if you don't understand anything in particular.

Also, there are still spots available :)
Thanks

Are there any kind of restrictions on weight or anything like that?

Sorry for the delay everyone. My friend Mr.693 Precision is capable of uploading pdf files for your viewing pleasure. He has also agreed to post on my behalf. So stay tuned for Rules and Regs and Match Details :)

And just so everyone is aware. The facebook page is updated and has more information then on here. And before people tell me they do not have facebook. No worries. Because I've made the page public so all you have to do is click on the link and you can still see everything without logging into a facebook account.

Match details are finished. There have been some minor adjustments to the course of fire. They will be posted shortly.

In the mean time,
Something that has been brought to my attention lately is that a lot of people who'd be interested in shooting have decided not to because they don't feel like they are good enough to compete.

This competition is a fun competition for experienced and new shooters to come out and try. It's also a great way to meet some really awesome people in the sport.

I've been asked time and time again, how do you know when your good enough to compete? The answer is to get out on the range and start competing. Don't worry about score. Have fun.

If you know someone like this and we all do. Let them know this is the competition to come out and experience as their first. I guarantee they will walk away with more knowledge then coming in (and possibly a prize :) )

I have been in exactly one competition and I finished second last and have maybe 300 rounds through my rig. I'm bad at ballistic math and have never shot out past 300 yards... I'm running a $200 scope on top of a Remington 700. I'll be there, so what's everyone elses' excuse?

Just remember we all were new shooters at one time, don't feel you need to complete with the top shooters come out have fun, complete with yourself, see what equipment everyone is using see what works and what doesn't and build on that. Bring your camera and note pad, ask questions and learn. If you need help look me up and I will do what I can to help out but just remember we are all doing it to have fun.
