Phase Line Green Tactical @ PCFGA, Peace River, AB, June 7-11, 2013

well, I am home from PR and have had a few hours to digest everything we did during pistol and Carbine. I will not bore everyone with the details of what we did, BUT, and it is a big BUT, if you haven't trianed with Earl, you haven't trained!!! I confirmed alot of stuff I thought I knew and learnt even more about running my glock and carbine. Or carbeen as Earl pronounces it.

Peace River Range is an outstanding range with GREAT people running the show out there. Amazing job Steveo and Alberta Coyote Caller!!!

SWL Wildcat it was great meeting you and your family. Not to mention your brother from another mother Chris!

All the guys on course with me were a great bunch from Soupy to both Clints, and everyone in between!

you guys are all welcome around my campfire!!

Earl thanks for showing me I can shoot that good consistently!!

GET OUT AND TRAIN WITH PHASELINE GREEN!!!!!!

This course was a blast. I learned a ton. I wasn't sure what to expect going into the course, but I'm glad I took it. The guys I met were all top notch, knowledgable and helpful.im especially grateful to Swl Wildcat for helping me out after my 1911 broke down. The peace river range is awesome and Steve and Greg are great guys.

Earl puts on a first rate course. He is not only knowledgable and skilled with his carbine, but he is able to relate real world experiences as well as humour into his teaching. Earl knows his stuff and how to run a course that's safe, fun, and productive.

The one disadvantage I had was that, by running a tavor, not everything taught, transfered directly over to my platform. Some drills I had to slightly modify on the fly to suit my rifle( mag changes, both emergency and tactical), or abandon altogether( junkyard prone). But I knew going into this that this type of thing would happen due to the tavor being so different.

I also had major reliability issues near the end of the course. It was frustrating but gave me a chance to practice malfunction clearing and transitions.

All in all it was awesome and I'd definately be back again for another course if it happens again. It was great to meet this group of guys and learn from earl.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.

Rebearded1,
What issues did you have with the Tavor? I was at the other end of the line and didn't realize you were having any problems.

Failure to feed, double feed, and bolt not holding open on an empty mag. Happened with my steel, LAR and pmags. I have the gun tore apart now but have to give it a real thorough inspection to see what's wrong.

This was a great week of training with a lot of very knowledgeable people! Earl is an excellent instructor who has a great way of relating with his students, both in the technical aspects and with his great sense of humour.

I'm looking forward to another opportunity to learn from Earl and refine my skills (most of which he taught me this week) further.

And to Stevo and ACC - Great job hosting once again. I know you two put a lot of work in behind the scenes leading up to and even late at night during the course! Without guys like you it would be impossible to have such high quality of instruction happening up here.

That doesn't sound good. Let us know what you find out.

And we couldn't do it without the folks who show up to learn. And who help with setup, tear-down, and clean up, every day. We couldn't do it without you guys.

Thank you.

My thanks are extended to the rest of the shooters who attended that were there to learn and help out. Thanks a lot. I had fun, learned and met some new good people.

As to the issues with firearms. It's unfortunate when your firearm goes down on a course. Don't be shy. People are there to help you out if you are stuck. Most times you can borrow a firearm and keep on learning and that is what you took the course to do, learn. You can take the fundamentals you learned and apply them later to your gun when you get home.

We will do it again sometime so keep your eyes and ears open for the next upcoming classes we host with PLG.

Greg

If I had known you were having Tavor issues I'm sure Chris would have lent you his Tavor, he had it there. I could have lent you my MR223 as well (Yes, I drank the H&K cool aid, and it is good ;)). I had a XCR I kinda wanted to run anyway, and I had a CZ too... Don't be shy if you are having issues.

It was near the end of the course when It became a real pain so I figured I'd just tough it out. I appreciate the offer and all the help I got from you with the pistol!

I had one failure to feed midway through the second day of the class, and that was on me. I didn't clean or lube the rifle after the first day because I wanted to see how far it would go before failure. The pouring rain didn't help the lube stay in place, either. A shot of CLP and it ran like a top again with zero issues to the end.

Ammo was Wolf Polyformance steel-cased.
