I do not recall ever seeing anyone share pics of their vintage / antique ammuntion box collections. Thought I would take time to share some photos and encourage others to do the same. I really enjoy collecting full, original cartridge boxes for the old lever guns. Does not seem to be as many folks into it up here, but it can be very enjoyable. Always looking for nice boxes to add to my collection as well, it is not easy finding nice boxes up here.
Here are some photos. Top photo are my 348 WCF boxes. Second photo are boxes of 33WCF. Those 8 red and yellow "1946" style boxes all came from the same crate, as new. Third pic is for the Winchester 1894 calibers. Last photo is a mixed lot. Most of the two piece boxes remain factory sealed. I think one of my best boxes is a box of Peters 348WCF in 210 grain. Most people probably do not even know that the 348WCF was available in this offerering. Peters did this 210 grain offering for only a year or two.
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Mike. Yes, the "1928" Staynless boxes was Winchester 's first "one piece" box, and it is very hard to come by. You rarely see any in the larger calibers, as they being heavy and pointed were very hard on the box bottoms. This one in flat mint and in the rare Full Metal Jackt loading. Probably my favorite style one piece box.

Moon,
I assume you mean the 5 green boxes of Winchester 44-40. Four are dark green are are all of he same vintage, but there is also one lighter green box, different from the other four - later box - at the bottom left. Which are you referring too?

Mooncoon,
The top three dark green boxes have labels date stamped 1908. You will see the WINCHESTER is in block letters within quotation marks, and there are callouts for the Model 1873 and Model 1892. These are all characteristics of post 1906 boxes. The bottom right dark green box is pretty much the same except the label is dated 1911 and the Winchester is italicized and within quotes. The lighter colored green box is a later box, lable dates 1919 and 1920. You will see by this time the italicized Winchester has lost its quotes, this was 1913-1919 period. This box is at least 1919, according to date stamps, but you can also tell because the 1873 became 73 and 1892 became 92. This coincided with the change made by Winchester in that same year to drop the 18 prefix from their model numbers.
Hope that helps! If you have any boxes you feel need to joing mine, let me know, lol.
Matt

Thanks 222!

What, no one else collect these old boxes? Have lots of PMs wanting to buy this and that, lol, but no one has any photos of their treasures to share?

Matt

OkCorral1881: Very nice stuff! Now I know where all the 351 in the country is, lol. I have a friend who would kill to have those boxes, lol. I really like those green and white Remington boxes. Do you know when those were made, roughly? You do not see them often.
Matt

Dang guys, I will try and take some pics of stuff I'm getting rid of. Looks like people are still collecting. I have no idea how old or if my items are old or not. I do have an almost full box of Staynless primers, along with some old shotgun boxes.

Hey Matt,
Yes the 351 is pretty rare and they are quite $$$, I am lucky to have a few boxes and I also have a nice 1907 to go with them. I think that rifle may gain a bit of popularity with the new serie ''the Son '' on AMC. (western with nice guns.)

Those green boxes are from mid-60's, the 45-70 late 50's. Believe or not those Remington (except for the 45-70) and Winchester Yellow boxes are mint, most unopened and always kept away from daylight...................and I can attest to that because my father was the original buyer of all those boxes in the 60's. (US)
OK

I have an original Lyman tang sight with original box for the Model 1907. Don't see them often. I am not familiar with 'The Son', have to check it out. Still have not started He'll on Wheels yet, hard to find time for tv.
Thanks for the info on the boxes. Thought those green and white were 60s, but was not sure. Boy, they would look good with mine...nice you still have them. Like a time capsule...
