Pic of mt first handgun - A not too exciting Glock

People who still say the p22 is good do it because they own one and they want to keep the resale value. Buy a ruger or a glock 22lr conversion kit.

Great scarecrow....but I asked you to show me .005%....youve managed 1/100th of that.

I don't exactly know what your issue is, but being an actual owner, with 4 in my history, it is the FUNNEST .22 pistol out there...it really is. I've put thousands and thousands throguh some of them, and I have never had a break...never. But I DO maintain them ($18.00 recoil spring every 10K is preventative maintenance)....you are just coming off like every other internet expert bashing another gun. Why dont you go to sporting rifles and beat up on a gun you down't own there? :) FWIW, in ten minutes of google I found more failures on Glock 17's than P-22's....why don't you preach in pistols that Glocks are garbage and they should buy something else?

Whatever.....I just don't think you should be discouraging a new shooter buy telling him the gun he wants is crap, when so many of us love the little P22's, and feel they are anything but. Want a target gun? Buy a ruger. Want a super-fun VERY cool looking pistol? Buy the P22, take CARE of it, and it'll be good to you (And I'M speaking from experience...lots of it ;) .

Yes, preventative maintenance, every of those 22lr pistols need that for this extremely powerful round. Of course the owners manual says nothing about it.

How dare I make him an informed buyer, I'm such an #######.
He already has the glock, and its not glock 17's that blow up, but your not an internet expert, so obviously you have all the right answers.

I shouldn't tell him to not buy a potentially defective pistol because you like yours. Why didn't I think of that before?

I had one P22 and I also not suggest this gun to anybody else. You may be lucky enough not to have a single problems. What scarecrow wants is avoid a new shooter to buy something to discourage his shooting hobby. To be fair my P22 is very accurate, never had a single hicup but every single small screws, barrel nut and barrel weight will come loose after a while, the slide got chip off a small piece of metal etc. I know the gun is now at 4th generation which should solve most of the problem but ever now and then there are someone has a new lemon. I bought that gun base on the cool and fun factor and no sooner I found the fun factor went to the people who watching me to find the tiny little screws on the range floor.

Trigun

Seems the slide is getting battered.

Can't you devise some kind of buffer for it? Maybe leather.

Glock 17 is not the problem model, its the G 22. Either way, the reason you found more failures for Glocks than P22's is because there are infinitely more Glocks in use than P22's.

ETA: P22's are a$$. Buddy of mine had one. It failed, repeatedly. It now runs(sort of) without the manual safety. I have yet to meet anyone who owns one with any serious round count that has not had some serious failure or operational complaint.

UPDATE

I bought my .22 pistol today. I went with a Ruger Mark III Hunter with half-checkered Cocobolo grips and a 6 7/8" fluted heavy barrel. Will post pics when I get it home. Thanks for the insight and discussion everyone; I think I made a good choice.

Hey Scarecrow...there were 712,500 of those "pieces of crap" sold last year...find me pics of..oh.... lets say.... .025%. No, wait... Scratch that...find me examples of .005 % that have cracked, would ya? Shouldn't be too difficult...They must be EVERYWHERE!

Otherwise? Learn to take better care of your guns.
First of all, where are you getting your numbers from? 712,500 P22's sold in one year? That sounds ridiculously high to me. Second, why are you assuming that everyone who has a problematic experience with a pistol bothers to document it online? Besides, if you do a quick google search, you will find multiple reports of cracked P22 slides. No one knows exactly what percentage of the guns is affected but it's pretty clear that this is a recurring problem.

I'm with Scarecrow on this one. Not only is the P22 a pot metal gun (zinc alloy), but, from personal experience, it's a major jam-o-matic. Buyer beware.
