All that goes through my mind when I see this image is the PC game Unreal Tournament..... HEADSHOT! :p

So what do you guys do with the gophers - back down the hole or leave them for the coyotes, foxes and hawks?

gophers are cannibalistic are they not?
as in they eat their dead!
i could be mistaken, as i was told by an older fella, ie: my old man:D

they eat their own. shot one and use it as bait for the other ones.

all 3 of us lined up on a gopher (RGS) that was sitting on a rock. we all aimed low; shot at the same time and watched as the .22 bullets lifted him skyward.

i once took out my sks to see if i could hit any gophers with it. picked off one at about 80 yards that was facing me perfectly, wow did it throw him up, all 5000 pieces of him, not a piece left bigger than say a peanut :S and the stench...

dam,,,

that's a huge varmit:eek:

I gotta meet some farmers in gopher country. That looks like a hoot:p

and a good reason to get a 22-250 or a 25-06:D

You won't see those ones in Alberta. We just got the little ground squirrels.

Just as fun, but harder to hit

I'm sure you can make them fly, with a big enough caliber. The 260 doesn't launch them?

I bet a 7mm-08 with a real fast twist and light varmint bullets would launch them. It's all about the twist & frangible bullets :D
I had one last year do a double backflip from a 95 gr ballistic tip in my 243, and one went a few feet high the same day as the pic after getting lazered with a 75 gr Vmax out of my 25-06. Ask Chilly, he allmost pissed his pants laughing:):):)...

9.5 score from this judge! It was sweet to view from the car. That Ruger 25-06 sure is a sweet little rifle with that Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40 A/O....perfect for those 300 yard pokes.

If you do trust a fart!!!! Make sure it's an old one. Bob

Huntsman and I are of on a gopher safari this weekend. I am interested behind the physic's involving a sod poodle and a .50 cal Kentucky. Fortunately, the rifle is so long that if I miss the little pature rat, I can smack it on the head.

No doubt Huntsman will have a few "faces of death" photo's online shortly afterwards.

...........he's like that.

This is what a mountain marmot looks like, one version anyways.

These "woodchucks" are the Vancouver Island Marmot and are protected by LAW. They are endangered. It is not a joke or the least bit funny.. you are joking about commiting a very serious crime.
There are VERY few left. I think the number is only 800 in the strathcona park area last time I checked. Of this 250 are on Mt.Washington.
The Mt.Washinton Arsenic/copper/ Antimony deposits and the mine site didn't help either.

Who was joking? I was giving insight into the different types of woodchucks, marmots and ground squirrels. There are many in Canada and all of different types, and all live in different areas. Some people obviously dont understand this.

You are right, and marmots are protected and have been for quite a while.

Who said exactly that they were shooting marmots for recreational purposes?

BTW marmots and woodchucks are different animals. They belong to the same family but live in very different areas of our country. Sometimes slang refers to one as the other.

If you want to argue legalities, make sure you have the right animal and part of the country first.
