Picked up a bit of a rare beauty last night

A few days ago a friend had messaged me, sent me a few photos of the handguns his dad was selling, All beauties, Colt gold cup, Smith 41, Dan Wesson, and this one here... An AMT Automag II in 22 magnum. I'd only ever seen this gun once before on the CGN Facebook page a week ago. Thought it was super neat looking, So when I seen I had a chance for one I snapped it up, Knowing nothing about the gun itself. Alberta CFO on point as always the pistol was mine 18 hours later.

Info is a little sparse, Some decent YouTube videos on disassembly and some shooting, But spent a good portion of last doing research on it, Quite an interesting gun, (stippled chamber for delayed cycling being 22 magnum is a slow burn round intended for rifles ect ect..) Only one of a few semi auto 22 mag pistols out there.

I guess they can be super finnicky, I was told this one shoots great with the intended ammo for this gun, Which is Winchester super X(seen my local CT has a decent amount so I plan to guy buy it all up today). If I take it out and it doesn't run how I hope I am a pretty good at getting guns to run the way I want. Read up on special stainless steel grease that works well on AMT guns so I ordered some of that up last night.

Overall just infatuated with this new gun, The looks and the feel and just overall uniqueness of it.
I am sure some of you have or have had these in the past and either had a good one or a complete jamomatic, Feel free to share your stories and experiences.

100% agreed! Always thought the automag was neat, in my research last night I found only 30 of the 44 automags ever made it into Canada! Finding one would be one problem, price would be the other.

I didn't realize they made them in .22mag, Looks new in the box, and new in the bag for all the spare magazines.
Let us know how she performs!

Friend of mine had one decades back in 44. I reloaded the ammo for it (made cases from cut down 308 brass at first, ammo was impossible to find). It was an interesting gun, his sample was finicky, but i have no idea if that was a single sample problem or not. Still, a cool piece of machinery. - dan
 
What an awesome find! I remember seeing ads for these in Guns&Ammo magazine when I was a kid. I remember wanting one back then.

Looks like you got a pile of magazines to go with it too. I am jealous. The only guns my fiends and family ever asked me if I wanted were old rusty wrecks. Congrats on your purchase. I want to hear all about your first range session.

AMT (Arcadia Machine and Tool) manufactured several firearms under the AutoMag name, including the AMT AutoMag II in .22 WMR, AMT AutoMag III in .30 Carbine, AMT AutoMag IV in .45 Winchester Magnum and AMT AutoMag V in .50 Action Express.

Demolitionranch on YouTube has some videos with Automags. He's got one of em in 30carbine and two in 44amp I think? Both of the 44s were finicky in the videos I watched. The ammo he had in 44amp is spicy!
 
Good find. I'd love to add one of those one day.

The original 44 Auto Mags are some of the nicest looking pistols ever created imo. Very cool that it is now back in production, with a number of improvements apparently. Looking forward to see how it stacks up.

The last original 44 Auto Mags that sold on EE went for 3500 and 4500 i think (the one for 4500 sold with a bunch of ammo and an additional 357 AMP barrel).

Those prices don't even seem that terrible to me, but I imagine they would be grossly inflated now days
 
When I first joined a gun club, there was a guy who had one of those .22 WMR AMT pistols. It was beautiful, but you sure didn't want to be standing next to him when he shot it. It wasn't like the percussion from a cannon, but it was pretty bad; there was the initial blast and then the echos, from the walls, the ceiling, and the floor, that eliminated your ability to stand still, much less to shoot a group. (This was a bullseye club.) When he'd take out his AMT, I'd just stand down (from shooting) until he moved on to the next gun.
