I went out to probably one of the last gun shows last weekend in Rodney, ON I will probably go to with all that is going on which I wont mention. The show was well attended and a nice outing for my son and I. A guy had a BNIB Ruger 10/22 model 31139 which is optics only with grey plastic stock for $240 out the door. Already being a 10/22 fan for the price I figured why not get one more now everyone in the family has one!
As mentioned I have several of them from different years, I find they work well are fun to customize but are not necessarily the most accurate things in the world but adequate for pest control and fun on the range.
I set this one up with a trigger I already had modded from another rifle and added a 4-12 power scope.
So on to the range, I set up a paper target with 10 1 inch bullseyes and shot from the bench at 50 yards with support of some bags up front. It was not really the best set up for accuracy as i had no rear bag but am very impressed with the results other than a few flyers no doubt caused by me shaking a bit. Accuracy was well within the 1 inch circles between .5-.75 ctc groups using American Eagle which is all I had on hand.
Personally I have been finding the newer 10/22s I have shot to be much better in terms of accuracy than the older models. Perhaps I just got a really good barrel.
POST EDIT
I decided to swap the grey stock that came with the rifle to a Boyds Blaster I found in the EE and swap to a different scope. A fixed power 10x banner. I also swapped triggers to an old metal one that I did a fair amount of work on to make it nice and crisp. Im very happy with the build overall and it has a great balance point for off hand shooting. I also have a short bipod for it but I really only use it on the bench.
