Picked up my Sig Sauer P226R 9mm, few basick questions

I bought a pistol light and never mounted it... not much use unless you are 'clearing' a dwelling with it and I'm not LEO so that makes it pretty useless.

It looks cool though. I could see a light on a NR firearm with rails, then it would serve a purpose.

In the end, I bought the light and sold it on the EE afterwards.

That being said, handguns are not meant for "home defense" in Canada...

Or anywhere else for that matter. You want "home defense", get a shotgun.

As to the light on a pistol thing, do whatever makes you happy. Surefire makes excellent products. I dislike the more forward balance with a light installed.

Home defence ? Not a chance. Let me see this scenario. Guy breaks into my home fully stoked with his testosterone through the roof and hopefully not full of narcotics. I'll approach him and say," Hold on, let me go to my gun safe, pull of the trigger guard, get my rounds in another container and load my clip and I'll be right up to 'threaten you' BUT cannot fire it anyway.

Nah, My dog is way for leathol.

I purchased the pistol after heading over to the firing range with my Pastor who is an avid shooter for 20 years and it was fun especially night shooting outdoors.

Now if Zombies do attack I hope there not wearing body army since my 9mm will not make a rats ass of a difference trying to penetrate it and I'm just not that good at head shots!

:)

Or you could get one of these http://www.hornady.com/store/rapid-safe for your bedside table or dresser. Holds a pistol and a loaded magazine very comfortably, and at the ready.

Well I do live in Canada so I'm not sure if that would be allowed. Who knows? The laws here are strange.

I do 'somewhat' agree with not carrying a pistol on a hunt just in case some wild game pops out the woods to attack you and discharging a 9mm let alone a .40 can allow the bullets to go astray but realistically, the odds of hurting someone in some isolated hunting crown land is extremely negligible. Professional trappers up here can carry .

Why not allow us to have frangible bullets ? I just don't understand the argument .

Nope I use a handgun for home defense in my US house. Much easier to navigate tight spaces. Plus I know the manual of arms pretty well considering I used the same handgun for competition.

And I'll never tell you that you're wrong for doing so. However the ballistic tests don't lie; if you want to end things as quickly and safely as possible a shotgun is king. Better chance of a one shot stop with reduced risk of over-penetration.

Get the light, mount it on your pistol, then use it the only way you can...............................while watching television in the dark, point the pistol at the wall and make shadow puppets.

Just double check it is unloaded... That would be really hard to explain at the ER.

Naw, they used to ppl shooting themselves in the hand when testing gun mounted lasers at the range lol!!

Seen that video.... I'll bet he was glad he didn't look into the laser to see if the light came out.

He certainly was dumb enough too..

Point well taken. I have read the gun laws but the police seem to make arbritary and unwarranted decisions that contradict our laws. I recall several years ago a gun owner firing warning shots when a group set his home ablaze. He was acquitted but the legal system put him through hell let alone tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Cheers.

The other issue is getting your info from CGN

The case you cite, he was not charged for anything relating to the use of the firearm. He was charged with unsafe storage based on him having a holster on his bed post, ammo in the night stand and him giving a poorly worded statement to police when asked about it.

Well, you absolutely need a tactical light on your pistol, as well as a complete set tactical web gear, urban camo, a Kevlar helmet, and night vision goggles.

You just can't be a weekend warrior otherwise. It says so in their rule book.

I hope you have night sights on your sig, shooting in the dark with a pistol mounted light and regular sights is hard to do without a clear sight picture. A hand held light at a shoulder/chin index will light up your target as well as your sights if you don't have tritium front and rear sights. Shooting in the dark is challenging but fun, muzzle discipline is key. Especially if your near other shooters on the firing line lol.
