So I picked up my checkpoint tabbed bolt carrier today. I had it shipped to a US address and crossed over to pick it up. I told the guys at the US border and the Canadian border and had no problems bringing it back. It does look pretty rough and the welds also look pretty rough.

I was hoping to get some opinions of some welders on how they should hold up over time?

I certainly hope you did not pay for that abomination

You should have sent it to me. Mind if I ask how much that cost?

It was 50 bucks. The finish on the carrier is very rough also, there is almost no actual finish left. I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance.

Why would they use a mig for that? and especially with out finishing up the weld, like no pride in there work. I hope they gave u back your carrier, not just winged it in a bin and grabbed a done up bunch and sent them out instead.

Jeez, Broncoo could have tabbed your existing carrier AND added a LH CH for just a few bucks more. And it wouldn't have looked like retarded monkeys were running the welder and grinder.

How did they manage to get the tab into this shape? Were they using scraps off the shop floor?

The work wasn't done on my carrier. This was "new" with the weld. After hearing so many good things about the makers I was very surprised to receive this. I'll be sending my untabbed carrier to bronco.

Look like they have MIG welded instead of TIG? MIG weldind is ok but a welder can do better beads than thoses.... and they could have smoothen the finish. For what you pay, i would have expected a way better job.

looks like kaka, I can do better with my left foot with my eyes closed.
Yes its MIG.......you can see from the convex bead shape and the splatter all over, MIG hardwire probably 75/25 gas.
Strength? Plenty........no worries there.

You will survive.........So much tabbing welding going on here, I will start to offer this GVRD local for free - save every one some serious headaches!

How much did you pay for the modified carrier? If the price was modest, and the thing works, what does it matter if the work looks crude??

Damn... I don't even weld and I'm sure I could do a better job if someone were to hand me the gear required and take 10 minutes to explain how to use it...

I am agreeing with you to a point, but form does need to meet function at some point. Especially on our beloved guns ...
