Picking a Blackpowder Cartridge Rifle

Get a 50-70 rolling block ..Twist is about 1:42..keep bullet weight around 450 grain will stabilize..Chances are good to go with a lee mould with a larger .516 cast compared to Lymans .512..again depending on your lead to tin ratio (read somewhere about 30:1..)Slug the barrel before buying a mould or spend the $25.00 bucks and get a lee.

If the 50-70 rolling block is one of the New York Militia ones, you would be wise to get a mold in the Loverin configuration (lots of small grooves). My experience has been that the chambers / throat is a bit long and the government style slug did not shoot accurately because it falls short of the rifling. My loverin style mold carries its diameter farther forward and shoots much better
