picking a new groundhog gun - VTR .223?

The 223 is one of those cartridges that called to me. On my second 223 now-sold the Ruger no 1 and replaced it with a CZ527. When I checked the site I was surprised to see that the CZ527 was the same weight as my CZ452 22lr.
And they are elegant designs. Working up loads for it now but if it is as accurate as the 452 then it will do me just fine. Maybe more money than you expect to spend but this one is a lifer. Gets out lots too. Groundhogs are easy to kill with 22lr but groundsquirrels are a little more of a challenge. The 223 has little or no recoil so you can watch a hit in the scope unlike the 22-250. Almost the same range with the right glass and handloads-enough for me. I can get 223 in Wallyworld and Crappy Tire but did not see any 22-250 on the shelves. I think the weight of my CZ527 American with a wood stock is 5.19lbs. Check the sites and compare. Buy what you like-you can always sell it later. Or get a used one to check out-maybe hook up with a GNnr and borrow one.

I've owned 5 Remington 700's and a 1 M7. all are/were 3/4 MOA or better rifles, and only one ever saw a smith ( to be rebarreled later to .338-06 that would put 3 in 0.6" all day long @ 100yrds).

yes, remington rifles are s**t. Scotty says so. better get rid of the 3 in my safe now. forget the cowbell, needs more plastic!

I don't doubt that one bit, but I would guess they were older rifles as compared to the new ones that seem to be giving Remington a bad name. In their quality anyway.

the 3 I have now are newer guns.

The Model 7 .308 is 1994 or newer. shoots .7" at 100 yards
The M700 SPSV .308 is 2005 or newer shoots .7" at 200 YARDS
the M700 VSSF-II .223 is 2005 or newer shoots .5" (often less) at 100yrds

yup. s**t quality eh?

soo.... the 700 has been around since 1971, so I would consider post 2005 to be a recently made rifle.

did the remington factory start turning out s**t last week? is that what you're trying to tell me?

Hahaha. Some good posts here. I've never owned a Remington and probably won't as there are a lot of quality control issues with the new ones (as per some posts here on CGN) and I've found what I need and like in other brands. It's a Ford/Chevy kind of thing with Remington sneaking up on Yugo.:p

so you're commenting on a product you've never owned, and basing your opinion on CGN posts? the rumors of busted remingtons have been around a long time, and they're just that, rumors.

I also heard a rumor Tikka rifles shoot 1 hole groups at 400yrds with milsurp ammo. and that jebus was seen in a taco in Tijuana

Some days you are a real meat head. Most people (other than yourself) would consider a rifle made in 2005 as old (not really old, but old) and something made in 2009 as new. I choose not to spend my money on Remington products, but like my post that you quoted, there are people here on CGN buying new Remingtons and there have been quality control issues with the ones they have bought. Go call them liars if you want. I highly doubt you will find any rifle that shoots 1 hole groups at 400 yards with milsurp ammo, but in your little fantasy world things like that just might happen. I also appreciate your slight on Christianity as it confirms my earlier belief that you have an inferiority complex and you like to try to insult others as a way of making yourself feel better. No luck this time though.:jerkit:

I think we need a CGN challege shoot, Tikka vs Rem (zero mods). We all know who would win....but it'd be a good time ;)

Cheers!!

I'll bring my M700 "Classic" in 300 Savage. I have a couple of rifles with custom barrels that won't outshoot it! Eagleye.

To KDX; Saying a 2007 rifle is "old" is asinine. A 1995 rifle is starting to age, but this "quality" issue has been circulating for 10-12 years or more already. I have at least 6 built since 1998 [and a couple since 2005] that shoot, look and feel just great!! Eagleye.

I have a 700 Rem sps 22-250 it shots under a 1/2 at 100yrds
